Job Title: Financial Accountant
Location: Priscilla Bacon Lodge
Salary: £45,000 - £50,000 pro rata
Hours: Part-time, 3 days per week
Reporting to: Commercial Director
The Financial Accountant will be responsible for managing the financial activities of the charity, ensuring the accurate and timely preparation of financial statements, compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, and contributing to the financial sustainability of the organisation. This role will play a key part in supporting decision-making by providing robust financial analysis and reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
* Financial Reporting:
o Prepare monthly management accounts and KPI reporting and annual statutory financial statements, including income and expenditure reports, balance sheets, and cash flow statements for the charity and our subsidiary’s.
o Report to finance committee, board and senior leadership team meetings.
o Ensure timely submission of statutory accounts and compliance with relevant financial reporting standards.
o Liaise with external auditors and manage the annual audit process.
* Budgeting & Forecasting:
o Assist in the preparation of the charity’s annual budget and forecast.
o Monitor and analyse monthly variances between actuals and budget, providing variance explanations.
o Prepare rolling forecasts to ensure effective financial planning.
* Donor & Grant Management:
o Support the preparation of donor and grant monitoring reports, ensuring that funders' requirements are met.
o Work with fundraising teams to provide financial guidance and support for project-based funding.
* Cash Flow & Treasury Management:
o Monitor and manage the charity’s cash flow to ensure the efficient use of resources.
o Implement effective cash management processes and controls, including bank reconciliations and cash forecasting.
o Ensure the organisation’s reserves policy is adhered to.
o Make recommendations for investment of excess cash in line with the investment risk policy.
* Compliance & Governance:
o Ensure compliance with charity accounting standards, tax regulations, and other relevant legal and regulatory requirements (e.g., Gift Aid, VAT).
o Maintain the financial systems and processes to ensure transparency, accountability and risk management.
o Provide financial advice and support to senior management and the Board of Trustees on financial matters and compliance issues.
* Payroll & Staff Costs:
o Processing payroll, ensuring accurate and timely payments to staff.
o Ensure pension contributions, taxes, and other deductions are handled accurately.
o Prepare reports related to staff costs and overhead allocation for management and project costing.
* Process Improvement & Systems Management:
o Identify opportunities for process improvements in financial systems and operations.
o Ensure efficient use of accounting software and recommend updates or changes where necessary.
o Support the implementation of new financial management systems and tools.
Person Specification:
Essential Qualifications/ Experience:
* Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).
* Passion for the charity’s mission and values.
* Excellent financial analysis and reporting skills.
* Proven experience in financial accounting, preferably within the charity or not-for-profit sector.
Skills & Competencies:
* Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple deadlines.
* Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
* Strong knowledge of charity accounting regulations, including the Charities SORP.
* Integrity, discretion, and professionalism.
* Excellent IT skills, particularly in accounting software and Excel.
* Previous experience in management accounts, reporting, audits and reporting to committees/boards.

Desirable:
* Experience with accounting software such as Xero, Sage, QuickBooks, or similar.
* Knowledge of VAT and Gift Aid processes and compliance.
* Understanding of financial risk management within the charity sector.
