Company Overview
Symetrica is a global leader in radiation detection and identification, providing advanced technology solutions for real world challenges. The range of detectors, from handheld devices to mobile solutions and portal monitors, serve customs and border protection, law enforcement and military, emergency services and first responders. Users benefit from the most operationally effective multi-layered radiation detection and identification systems. For the last 18+ years, Symetrica has produced a wide breadth of best-in-class radiation detection solutions. More recently the company has experienced rapid growth as it has introduced new products and solutions and additionally has scaled the leadership of the commercial teams. The company has a dedicated, specialist staff and manufacturing plants in Westford (MA) and Southampton (UK) for the design, manufacture and support of its product range.
Job Summary
Symetrica is seeking a skilled, curious, and motivated graduate to join the innovation team, which is responsible for developing new ideas and delivering them into the product line. The Applications Engineer will join the team as it expands its capability to develop the next generation of radiation sensing products. They will work with the supervision and mentorship of the CTO and Technical Director (combined experience of nearly 50 years) to bring an important new innovation to life.
Specifically, the Development Engineer will lead the development of a system of “virtual sources”, simulated radiation sources that can be picked up by Symetrica’s real radiation-sensing products. These “virtual sources” will give users the power to simulate radioactive threats using real equipment, so they can improve user training and develop effective responses. Presently, such training is limited by the safety and practicality of using large radiation sources, especially in the real environments where a threat might present itself. The work will involve a fusion of our real products with advanced simulations and augmented reality techniques, to create accurate simulations of radioactive threats. The Applications Engineer will work with the Physics Team and Software Team to explore concepts of how to achieve this and develop prototype systems that can be tested and demonstrated to users to support the business in selling this as a solution.
This role is a 12 Month FTC, Fixed Term Contract, with the potential to go permanent.
