We are looking for a full-time Phlebotomy Co-Ordinator to improve and provide safe quality care in an ever-expanding workforce across the wider county.
As a Phlebotomy Co-Ordinator, you will supervise and support phlebotomists in your designated area and provide effective first-line management and coordination of the service. You will be a fully competent phlebotomist and will be expected to set and maintain high standards of patient care and blood sample collection. You will be working unsupervised, getting support from line managers as appropriate. You will work in various locations across the Trust and in the community supervising the work of blood collection staff. You will have the knowledge and skills necessary to contribute towards the provision of an accurate and timely service for patients. You will be expected to apply professional judgments and specialist skills to technical and sometimes difficult situations. You will be required to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues, healthcare staff, and other organizations.
Main Duties of the Job
1. To co-ordinate and validate the activities of routine blood collection services across outpatient and inpatient areas of the Trust.
2. Set and maintain high standards of patient care and blood sample collection.
3. To extract blood samples from patients in a manner that makes the blood sample suitable for analytical, therapeutic, or diagnostic testing.
4. To effectively manage contingencies that arise during the day-to-day running of phlebotomy services.
5. To assist the Phlebotomy Manager to design and deliver the phlebotomy training and induction program.
6. To co-ordinate and participate in the training of phlebotomists.
7. To participate in people management procedures such as staff recruitment and appraisal and attendance management.
8. To prepare and check staff rotas and attendance.
9. To co-ordinate the stock and non-stock ordering for phlebotomy.
10. To represent the department at meetings, promoting good working relationships across internal and external boundaries.

Job Responsibilities
1. To perform Venepuncture and capillary sampling blood collection procedures.
2. To extract blood samples from patients in a manner that makes the blood sample suitable for analytical, therapeutic, or diagnostic testing.
3. To co-ordinate activities in varied locations e.g., hospital wards, outpatient clinics, community locations.
4. Working with management to maintain and update policies and procedures that will lead to service improvements.
5. To investigate all untoward incidents including patient complaints and make recommendations to reduce the incidence of re-occurrence.
6. To be responsible for the health, safety, and welfare of yourself and of the patient.
7. To ensure Health and Safety procedures are followed by all staff in all areas.
8. To ensure that staff are fully conversant with obtaining lawful consent.
9. To effectively manage contingencies that arise during the day-to-day running of phlebotomy services.
10. To represent the service at meetings and promote good working relationships across internal and external boundaries.
11. To collect/collate evidence of work-based practice for periodic review.
12. To collect data/information for internal/external audit purposes.
13. To independently manage own workload and effectively delegate work to others.
14. To communicate effectively with patients, relatives, and staff of all ages, genders, sexual orientations, cultures, or physical abilities.
15. To ensure the provision of equipment fit for use and in a manner that makes it fit for disposal.
16. To identify and select suitable sites for blood collection using personal judgmental skills.
17. To obtain blood samples from patients to a standard fit for laboratory testing.
18. To act as an expert in this field of practice.
19. To create an environment suitable for the needs of both patients and staff.
20. To promote a critical and analytical approach to the delivery of service and implement changes to improve systems when required.
21. To respond to and/or investigate complaints ensuring appropriate escalation action is taken to prevent re-occurrence.
22. To identify people’s strengths and weaknesses providing constructive feedback and support to maximize their contribution to the team.
23. The job holder will be expected to work across all Trust sites, including non-Trust premises, as required.
Person Specification
Knowledge & Experience
* Sound knowledge of health and safety.
* Mentoring or phlebotomy training experience.
* Experience of leading a team.
Skills
* Advanced computer skills, ability to use Microsoft packages including Word, Excel, and e-rostering.
* Managing complaints and queries from patients and staff.
* Ability to travel across the county both planned and unplanned when required.
* Flexible approach to working day and environment.
Education, Training & Qualifications
* 3 years Phlebotomy Experience.
* Education: GCSE Maths and English or Equivalent.
