About us: Nicholls Boreholes & Ground Source (www.nichollsboreholes.co.uk) is a multi-award winning business established in 2007, designing and installing industry leading water and renewable heating/cooling systems across the south of England. Starting life as a family-run construction company, it has successfully expanded over the last 17 years, providing drilling, water, heat, consultancy and licensing solutions for individuals, businesses, and developers.
Nicholls has installed hundreds of Water Borehole systems and Ground Source Heat Pump (GSHP) systems since 2007. Our in-house team of highly experienced technical designers, skilled drillers, and professional installers, with our state-of-the-art equipment, have completed over 1,500 projects with over 4,000 boreholes drilled to date for residential and commercial projects. We also offer further support and maintenance from our experienced, qualified, professional Service Department.
Key Purpose of the Role
The GSHP and Water Wells Project Manager role is key to our business by ensuring our customers receive the best possible solution for their needs and the highest levels of service. The role involves working closely with customers and coordinating project delivery with our in-house specialist operational teams; ensuring all our GSHP and Water Borehole installations are systematically managed from drilling to installation and service, ensuring all systems operate efficiently for the whole of their operating life.
The role requires a motivated and proactive individual with proven PM skills in engineering or construction. A successful candidate will be able to demonstrate good organisational and communication skills and the ability to manage multiple projects in a team-based environment.
Managing client contracts to a defined project scope and having a disciplined approach to project delivery is essential given the complexity of our projects and the various delivery teams involved. Previous Project Management skills with a technical or mechanical background are essential.
Responsibilities and Objectives
* Oversight and organisation of multiple projects
* Manage projects closely to an agreed design
* Log project steps, milestones, timelines, and status daily
* Communicate with clients, in-house operational teams, and contractors proactively and timely
* Be the primary client contact for all project-related activities
* Deliver projects on time and within budget
* Create a central project file and capture all changes - save all relevant documents
* Plan and confirm installation dates and produce programmes of works – share with all relevant parties
* Conduct project pre-start meetings with Sales/Tech/Design/Drilling/Installs/Clients
* Utilise our CRM (Monday.com) system, including logging implementation actions, resources, and parts/materials
* Assign key individuals/teams to tasks – work closely with the coordinators
* Liaise with clients and teams regarding project timelines, changes, and extra costs; communicate changes in advance
* Coordinate with Finance to ensure invoices are issued and paid on time and update progress and invoicing
* Document materials schedule and purchasing timelines; communicate delivery dates to respective teams
* Ensure drilling teams and installation teams are correctly equipped
* Ensure all permits and licences are in place
* Track planned days vs. actual – adjust and communicate
* Oversee all site works including commissioning and handover to clients
* Gather feedback from clients and staff upon completion

* Quality control - ensure all installations are of a high standard meeting our customers’ expectations
* Ensure Nicholls HSE policies are adhered to in the planning and delivery
* Ensure all drilling and installation works have RAMS and method statements, as required
* Liaise with other Project Managers to ensure rigs and resources are coordinated – share the plan
* Ensure drilling rigs are fully utilised between WW and GSHP projects
* Save all relevant documents in CRM/central project area on SharePoint
* Escalate any issues to the Technical Manager in a timely manner
* Identify in advance resource issues and project challenges and escalate quickly
* Work to complete the design, population (of data), and implementation of Monday.com (CRM system)
