We have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Layout Designer to join our Technical Team.
The Jelson Group of companies has a wide range of businesses with our main business being construction (new homes, industrial and commercial), also transport, manufacturing, hospitality, garages, and plumbing/electrical companies.
This is a full-time position to support the growth and function of the Technical Department, which specialises in Architecture and Civil Engineering, within the Jelson Group. The role will require you to work within the design function of the department delivering tasks from concept to completion.
Primary Role
1. Layout Design
2. Concept stage layouts for land bid purposes.
3. Layouts for Reserved Matters applications (detailed layouts).
4. Master planning.
5. Feasibility Layouts.
6. Street scene creation and evaluation.
Supporting Role
1. Support the architectural design function of the group business.
2. Deliver various design orientated tasks from concept to completion.
3. Support site‐based operatives with complex queries and assist to deliver solutions in a timely manner.
4. Assist with group projects as required.
Key Responsibilities
1. Work on a variety of layout designs from concept stage through to functioning construction/detailed layouts (Reserved Matters approved).
2. Collaborate with the wider business to ensure critical analysis of layouts with regard to house types/street scene aesthetics and site constraints has been fully accommodated, whilst maintaining a ‘buildability first’ mindset.
3. Ensure stakeholder considerations, recommendations and approvals are obtained and incorporated.
Secondary Responsibilities
1. Assist with the development and management of the group house type portfolio.
2. Assist in maintaining working drawing packages to ensure sufficient information is provided to enable Building Regulation/NHBC approval.
3. Submission of technical information to NHBC/Building Control.
4. Assist in obtaining Pressure Test Certificates, SAP’s, and EPC documentation.
5. Co‐ordinate information between third party companies to enable the design of specialist building components such as roof trusses, joists, block and beam flooring, M&E designs, and structural designs.
6. Help maintain house type block plan library.
7. Assist with site layout design as required.
8. Provide planning support information such as assisting with street scene design, planning drawing packages and material schedules.
9. Ensuring industry standards are met accordingly.
10. Manage specifications and seek cost effective solutions for all necessary building components.
11. Produce sales plans and associated literature.
12. Co‐ordinate drawing issues.
13. Ensure safe working practices are followed at all times.
Relevant Qualifications or Experience Required
1. HNC/Level 4 in construction/urban design is essential.
2. Foundation degree/HND/Level 5 is desirable.
3. Excellent knowledge of Planning Policy framework.
4. Excellent resourcing abilities regarding local planning policies/design guides and standards.
5. Good knowledge / experience using AutoCAD/Revit or similar industry standard software.
6. Excellent communication, problem solving and time management skills.
7. Understanding of building regulations and NHBC standards.

Experience:
1. UK Housebuilder Architectural: 3 years (required).

Pay: £45,000.00-£50,000.00 per year
