Personal Support Worker Needed for Young Man with Complex Medical and Physical Needs.
Are you a compassionate and dedicated individual with a passion for making a difference in the lives of others?
We are seeking a kind and reliable personal assistant to provide exceptional care for a 25-year-old man with complex medical and physical needs. He has been diagnosed with cerebral palsy (dystonic and spastic type), requiring the use of a gastrostomy tube for feeding, and experiences epilepsy, complex suctioning needs, obstructed airway apnea (Cpap overnight), and requires specialized seating and equipment for optimal positioning and pressure management.
Responsibilities:
1. Assisting with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, toileting, etc.)
2. Providing nutritional support through the gastrostomy tube
3. Performing airway suctioning as needed. This suctioning can be life threatening.
4. Monitoring vital signs and reporting any concerns to the healthcare team
5. Implementing positioning strategies and adjustments in the specialized seating system and sleep system
6. Ensuring adequate hydration
7. Driving client's own large van (manual) to day centre, community and social outings
8. Engaging in leisure activities and social interaction
9. Offering emotional support and companionship
10. Preparing and administering medication
11. Participating in therapy sessions which also includes hydrotherapy
Qualifications: Preferred
1. Experience caring for individuals with complex medical needs, including cerebral palsy
2. Familiarity with gastrostomy tube feeding and airway suctioning techniques
3. Strong understanding of positioning and pressure management principles
4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, spoken, written and understanding
5. Compassionate, patient, and reliable
6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team
7. Positive attitude and a commitment to providing quality care
8. Very confident manual driver with at least a year’s local driving experience.
