Job Overview
For the post holder to provide a robust and comprehensive secretarial and administrative service to the Specialist Palliative Care team including the service managers and the medical team. The post holder will act as secretary to the relevant medical staff and support the Team Lead for the Specialist Palliative Care service. This is a full-time post to be based in South Lakes, at Westmorland Hospital with occasional days at Fairfield Lane, Barrow.
Main Duties of the Job
1. To provide a full secretarial service for both medical and nursing service, ensuring clinic letters, discharge summaries, medical reports are accurately typed using digital dictation within a 5-day turnaround.
2. To work in close liaison with the specialist palliative care secretary, medical staff, and team lead clinicians to ensure no Trust targets for patients are breached.
3. Deal with incoming and outgoing post as appropriate and in line with Standard Operating Procedures.
4. Ensure all typing of letters etc. is done in a strict date order process achieving targets set by the lead nurse and working to the Standard Operating Procedure, unless otherwise stated by the clinician.
Working for Our Organisation
We operate from three main hospitals: Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units, and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life-threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case, and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
* GCSE Maths and English
* ECDL or recognised typing qualification or relevant experience
* Audiotypwriting or equivalent qualification or experience
Experience
* Previous administration and/or secretarial experience
* Audio typing experience
* Experience of working with a digital dictation system
Skills, Ability and Knowledge
* Knowledge of data protection and the requirement for confidentiality
* Evidence of clear communication skills, with the ability to use tact and diplomacy at all times.
* Proficiency in English Language
* Able to work following instruction and procedures
* Ability to work as part of a team and be a supportive team member
* Knowledge and use of medical terminology
* Knowledge of the Lorenzo and Emis computer systems
