Job Description:
Mitchells Auction Co. Ltd. is a long-established auctioneering firm (established 1873) with a modern livestock market and associated rural environmental services based at the Lakeland Agricultural Centre, Cockermouth.
Based in our Cockermouth office, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Farm Adviser to join our team of dedicated, friendly, environmental professionals to work closely with the rural community.
We are looking for a passionate farm environmentalist who has a can-do attitude, is organised, punctual, and has an affinity with the farming community and working within a team. The right candidate will have the necessary skills to manage several projects at once, as you will be expected to service your own client base, as well as other work when needed.
You will need to provide:
Essential:
* A good all-round knowledge and enthusiasm for the modern agricultural industry, its statutory legislation and government bodies.
* Understanding of legacy environmental stewardship schemes and topics such as air quality, climate change & nature recovery.
* The ability to contribute to our team's work on the new Sustainable Farm Incentive and other anticipated transitional grant schemes.
* Excellent administrative skills with the ability to manipulate various mapping and design/publishing software packages. Skills in Excel and PowerPoint presentations are an advantage.
Desirable:
* Knowledge of business planning & farm sustainability work.
* Interest in green finance and the delivery of carbon foot printing / carbon management projects across a range of agricultural sectors.
* Knowledge of various woodland grant schemes.
* Experience of carrying out farm visits.
* Ability to nurture new clients and work out of hours if business needs require.
Other desirable skills:
* Either a degree in a relevant subject or evidenced experience in administration and farm advice.
* Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and collaborate at all levels.
* Good report writing and presentation skills.
* Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritise workload effectively.
