About The Role
The School of Physical and Chemical Sciences is seeking to appoint a Chemistry Laboratory Technician to provide technical support for the School’s Chemistry research laboratories. The post is 0.8 FTE and provides maternity cover for 9 months. The post holder will support chemistry labs in both the Department of Chemistry and the Department of Physics and Astronomy. To support the wide variety of activities, we are looking for candidates with a chemical background.
The research Chemistry Laboratory Technician will be responsible for the effective day-to-day housekeeping of the research labs, training new users on equipment, performing routine maintenance and calibration of equipment, and ensuring that the labs are adequately stocked and supported.
The Chemistry Research Laboratory Technician will work closely with the School Health and Safety Coordinator to ensure that the dedicated lab spaces are operated and maintained in compliance with School and University policy and the UK Health and Safety Executive guidelines.
About You
Candidates should have A-levels in Math and Science and possess a HNC or equivalent qualification. Relevant experience working in a chemistry laboratory environment is essential.
It is desirable for candidates to have a degree in chemistry or physics and have either an apprenticeship degree or equivalent experience in the relevant research environment.

The School of Physical and Chemical Sciences consists of the Department of Physics and Astronomy and the Department of Chemistry. It is one of five schools in the Faculty of Science and Engineering. The School is an exciting and dynamic environment, home to over 530 undergraduate students, 70 postgraduate taught students, and 130 teaching and research staff. Our research is highly collaborative, working with colleagues across all three faculties and supported by partnerships with industry, NHS, and other stakeholders.
