About the role
Morrison Water Services is recruiting for a Design Engineer to work on our Yorkshire Water and United Utilities contract based in Leeds.
The Design Engineer will be part of the design team which covers the investigation and detailed design of clean and waste water networks, civil engineering, and other projects principally, but not wholly, related to the water industry. Design Engineers take responsibility for less complex projects, or complex projects under the supervision of Lead Design Engineers. They can produce and check technical documents within their area of expertise and produce construction packs ready for handover to site teams. They must liaise regularly with their project team ensuring that programme tasks and milestones are completed in accordance with expectations. The Design Engineer must ensure that all designs are completed to CDM 2015 Regulations.
As the Design Engineer your responsibilities will include:
* Performing required activities associated with projects (investigation, design, construction and completion) in line with client and Morrison Water Services specifications, national standards, and codes of practice.
* Performing other duties and responsibilities as required from time to time by your manager or MWS project managers.
* Preparing and registering all relevant documentation, ensuring that all documentation is current, accurate, and in compliance with MWS/Client requirements.
* Working in collaboration with other design/investigation disciplines to ensure the integrity of the overall design.
* Ensure compliance with all CDM, Health & Safety, and environmental issues in relation to the development of sustainable solutions.
* Derive, select, and manage innovative methods and use of materials & safe systems of work that will impact heavily on projects.
* Liaise with external agencies ensuring the investigation/design and construction phase runs smoothly.
* Liaise with internal departments/client to ensure schemes are designed using the most cost-effective method available.
* Produce accurate statutory notices for work to be carried out on private land in conjunction with the client’s requirements for dealing with private land.
* Actively seek out Capital efficiencies and outperformance within the works.
* Assist in the production of reports/information to the Lead Designer, Design Manager, and Project Managers including clients when requested.
* To perform any other task commensurate with the role.
* Ensure Liaison with clients, contractors, government agencies, local authorities, and suppliers throughout the investigation, Design, and Construction phase.
* Ensure that all the relevant information for the H/S file and completions documents are available at the end of the project.
The Key Requirements
* Educated to A levels or BTEC National.
* Experience of using MS Office Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook.
* Ability to demonstrate an initiative to work on their own and as part of a team.
* Have a good knowledge of water and waste water systems including associated MEICAT equipment and the relationship between the two, either through previous experience or education.
* Experience of using AutoCAD 2D / GIS Software.
* Knowledge and understanding of CDM 2015.
* Awareness of Process Safety.
* Good communication skills that can adapt to the audience (e.g. internal, clients, customers).
* Understands and meets the client’s needs.
* Understanding of network modelling software and application per client.
