Description
The primary purpose of this plant leadership team (PLT) role is to optimise yard and service labour, material & equipment resources. You’ll ensure CHEP hire-stock products are supplied via hauliers’ within service performance criteria to meet the customers’ requirements.
The secondary purpose is to ensure transactional accuracy and control of physical stock holding of finished good hire-stock, raw materials, and waste processes.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Safety - Ensure that potential Zero Harm hazards are eliminated or controlled through regular reviews of work activities, equipment, and facilities. Provide employees with training and instructions on work practices, with specific reference to Zero Harm and Environmental considerations whilst achieving the required targets. Lead incident investigations within teams – both people and equipment.
2. Security – manage site security in terms of systems and manned personnel. Includes perimeter checks.
3. Near miss and hazard reduction and control (e.g. pedestrian segregation) – drive engagement and compliance through MOT. Management of the Winter contingency plan and CCTV monitoring.
4. Stocks – Ensure management of stocks (finished product hired stock across all batches and raw materials) to agreed trigger levels to ensure availability. To manage stock holding efficiency to ensure optimum storage cost, including out-storage where required. Completion of daily and weekly stock reconciliations and investigations into stock variances.
5. Reporting - Manage reporting of all stock and flow movements to and from the plant (and supporting outstores and TPMs) via accurate data input and timely processing. Attendance of the network weekly stocks and flows call. Provision of information for PQCDSM Scorecard and Monthly POLT and Reports.
6. Manage and report all data input of plant performance and manage budget for all non-maintenance purchasing requirements for the plant. Collect, validate and input key plant information into SAP.
7. Labour Costs – Ensure efficient use of labour pool available on the shift ensuring overtime is minimised and attendance is optimised through robust attendance management.
8. Activity hours – ensure completion of daily/weekly entry and reconciliation of activity hours and ensure end of month release of activity hours in SAP.
9. Process Improvement – Contribute and drive process improvement within the yard and service department through projects and continuous improvement.
10. Turnaround performances – monitor and improve site turnaround performance of hauliers to network and plant targets. Adherence to appointment scheduling process and targets where applicable.
11. Machinery – ensure safety and process equipment checks compliance
12. Suppliers - work closely with FLT and Waste equipment suppliers to ensure maximum machinery capability and minimise downtime.
13. Staff Management – Manage all industrial relations issues within team including performance management, absence management, grievances, appeals etc. Distribute of service office and yard tasks to all team members as appropriate. Provide short-term cover to yard or service desk where required.
14. Communication – enable and deliver excellent communication channels with all employees on team. Ensure regular updates on shifts, regarding shift, team, plant, and company performance.
15. Training – ensure all shift members have the skills required to carry out their role (including SAP training), and development plans generated for each individual. Support network annual staff sap and procedure reviews.
16. Appraisal and Reward & Recognition – ensure completion of appraisals and objective setting and review.
17. Customer service – ensure issues are managed efficiently and effectively and in a timely manner with customers, retailers, and hauliers as necessary. Ensure internal customer requests are handled effectively and timely.
18. Procedural compliance – Ensure service office and yard procedures are followed and carried out in the correct manner and paperwork completed fully to ISO 9001 standards. Support audits by CHEP internal, Brambles, and ISO 9001:2008 accreditations.
19. Purchasing – plant purchasing control of direct spend (raw materials (where appropriate) and consumables) and indirect spend, including supporting procedural compliance to preferred supplier lists. Manage basware issues daily. Have direct control of plant office spend GL (stationary etc.).
20. Stock quality audits - Raw material quality control audits on inbound deliveries and audits for contamination on yard hire stock
21. Waste management – manage completion of the legislative waste register for waste inbound and waste outbound. Achieve improvement in disposal and rebate costs with a sustainability target of Zero to Landfill.
22. Subcontractor management - Organise and control contractors in yard and service where necessary,
23. Best practice - Promote the ethics and principles of lean, 5S and team work through communication and setting an example, including reapplication of network best practices.
24. Plant leadership team (PLT) – attendance and contribution to meetings and plant reporting.
25. Site Reception - goods receipt of deliveries and first point of contractors/visitors management.
26. Achievement of ZERO HARM objectives.
27. Achievement of SERVICE DELIVERY, including delivery of plant SERVICE TURNAROUND targets.
28. Delivery of plant CUSTOMER SATISFACTION and PRODUCT QUALITY (Yard impact) Metrics.
29. Employee attrition/absence/fulfilment.
30. Employee Engagement measured through BES Results.
31. Achievement of Sustainability and Zero to landfill targets
What you’ll need
32. 2-3 years supervisory experience in high volume manufacturing operations environment
33. English & Maths qualifications
34. Proven skills and capabilities in leadership, communication, people management, and problem solving.
35. IOSH Qualification.
36. FLT licence desirable.
37. Six-Sigma Green/Black Belt certification desirable.
38. Experience of leading and achieving results in an extremely target driven high volume manufacturing/transport environment
39. Experience of Lean manufacturing and process control (six-sigma) techniques.
40. PC Literate - particularly strong Excel and SAP skills.
