The IT Department
The IT Security Engineer sits within our Technology Department that is crucial to making sure our employees and students can work effectively, deliver projects, find the right solutions and ensure we develop the technology that will make the biggest difference. Our IT team is made up of around 60 employees with a vast range of skills from Software Development to IT Operations and IT Security. Our IT Department values employee development and we have lots of great examples of employee progression and promotions within the team.
The Role – IT Security Engineer
We are currently recruiting an IT Security Engineer to join our expanding Cyber Security team. Are you looking for the next step in your information security career? Do you want to join a fast growing team and really make your mark? If so, our IT Security Engineer role could be for you!
As our new IT Security Engineer, you will be a member of the Information Security Team and responsible for the implementation, configuration and administration of our technical security control suite. You will be working on the design and implementation of new security controls / technologies to help further improve Arden’s security posture.
* Design and implement security IT / network solutions designed to defend against hackers, cyber attacks, and other persistent threats.
* Evaluating the University’s security needs and establishing best practices and standards accordingly.
* Troubleshooting network and security issues and incidents.
* Analyse and interpret data using a range of techniques; identifying trends, testing solutions, sourcing additional related information where appropriate, and reporting on progress through briefings or formal reports.
* Educate IT teams to support our Information Security strategy.
About You:
The ideal IT Security Engineer candidate will have:
Essential:
* Strong IT skills and knowledge including hardware, software, networking and cloud services.
* Significant work experience with incident detection, incident response and forensics.
* Experience working within a security framework e.g. PCI DSS, Cyber Essentials, ISO 27001, NIST.
* Experience with virtualisation technologies, back up services and IP networking.
* In-depth knowledge of security systems including anti-virus applications, content filtering, authentication systems, and device encryption, Firewalls, Endpoint Protection (EDR, XDR), DNS, VPN, MFA, DDOS mitigation technologies.
Desirable:
* Recognised information security certification e.g. Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), CompTIA Security+.
* Experience of Dev/Ops practices including automation, CI & CD Pipelines (e.g. Jenkins).
* Experience of AWS, especially EC2, VPC, RDS, S3, Cloudfront, Route 53, IAM, CloudWatch.
