Payment Officer – Children Services – Croydon Council
Salary: Grade 7 (£37,068 - £38,058)
Fixed Term / Secondment (12m) – 36 hours per week

Job Purpose
We are looking for a multi-skilled, flexible individual with a demonstrable senior level of administration and finance experience.
Reporting into the Children Processing and Payment Team Leads for the Children’s Payment Team, the role will provide administrative, payments, data support, and analytical reporting to busy social work teams, managers, and the corporate finance department. This role is hybrid working, usually two days a week in the office – this could change according to the needs of the service.
This role undertakes the functions necessary to ensure proper, timely, and robust financial processes across Children’s Services including:
1. Engagement: supplier onboarding & set up
2. Processing: processing invoices, responding to queries, correcting costs, chasing suppliers for invoices/credit notes
3. Payment: payment runs, emergency payments, cash payments, savings
4. Monitoring: compliance monitoring, recharging, accruals, and service support
About You
The successful candidate must demonstrate excellent IT and administrative skills, be able to manage high volumes of sensitive information through various channels and from several sources, meet tight deadlines and turnaround times, have the ability to assess urgency and the need for escalation, and be a major contributor to a service working to support vulnerable children and families.
Essential Requirements
1. Advanced, accurate use of IT systems, including complex databases.
2. Excellent organisational and prioritising skills.
3. Experience of processing payments through various channels.
4. Ability to work unsupervised, and also contribute to team aims and deadlines.
5. Commitment to and understanding of Data Protection and Confidentiality.
6. Excellent customer service skills.
7. Knowledge of safeguarding children is an advantage, but not essential.
8. Ability to share knowledge/expertise between team members.
