Overall Purpose of the Role: Working on permanent night shift the Process Technician is responsible for the safety and compliance of operational maintenance of plant equipment, receiving and processing incoming waste material ensuring that it is compliant with the permitted waste types in order to feed the plant accordingly, maximising energy output and cost effectiveness by smooth operation of the plant.
The nightly activities include:
* Undertake general fault finding, defect rectification and maintenance tasks
* Adherence to safe working practices
* Operating de-packaging machinery consistently to optimise the recipe for the type of waste received and plant KPI’s
* Act as senior person and provide best practice operational advice and guidance to operations team
* To safely and effectively tip trailers of waste
* To manage the cleanliness of the reception, pads and overall site
* Running of the SMICON screening units for the digestate
* Running, optimisation, fault rectification of the Oil separation equipment.
* To optimise the hammer mill operation to ensure minimal contaminants are put through the process
* Any other duties which are assigned by the Lead Operator, Engineering Supervisor or Plant Manager
Key Areas of Responsibility:
* Receiving in and processing all types of waste vehicles that includes inspection
* Review loads that arrive with a view of acceptance before paperwork is signed and when vehicles are to leave site. (If unsure, ask)
* PH testing of liquid deliveries before the load is discharged to the liquid’s reception tank
* Contain and clear any spillages on site in an efficient and safe manner when required
* Operate the weighbridge manually in accordance with site processes
* Ensure vehicles leave the Reception Hall to the required hygiene standard.
* Daily & weekly clean down and simple maintenance processes are conducted and logged (if required) on the specified paperwork
* Workplace organisation & housekeeping in the reception hall and around the site
* Ensuring provisions are in place to allow adherence of animal health & environment agency requirements (i.e. footbaths always in operation, no food waste is spilt outside the reception hall, litter is collected / prevented from leaving the reception hall, not accepting food waste where the EWC code does not feature on our permitted list, doors not left open for prolonged periods etc.)
* To maintain equipment effectively including greasing, routine maintenance checks. To ensure that reports any equipment defects or lack of resources to the Engineering Supervisor
* Completing daily operational log checks and relevant documentation
* Completing shift performance log, detailing any stoppages and breakdowns
* Ensuring daily mechanical handling equipment checks on all vehicles and equipment where necessary
* Ensuring the packaging waste within the reception hall goes into the correct streams for the daily skip movements (i.e., landfill, recycling etc.)
* Run the digestate screening operation as required i.e., changing dolva’s/starting-stopping the smicons
* Achieve acceptable levels of materials processed, based on the waste delivered and daily KPI’s for the plant by operating the HMI
* Report any issues, shortages and problems to the correct lead
* Adhere to the site Health & Safety policy in all work activities
* Undertake any course of instruction necessary to obtain or maintain the required skill level for this role
* Ensuring that time keeping, and punctuality is maintained at an acceptable level.
* To undertake such other activities as may reasonably be required from time to time and which are within the competency of the job holder.
* Follow company procedures
Shift Pattern: 4 on 4 off - Nights
Shift Hours: 6pm - 6am
Starting salary: £33k

Hemswell Biogas is a large processor of food waste located in Lincolnshire and has been designed to handle a wide range of waste feedstocks and capable of producing 13.1MW energy generation. Through a process called Anaerobic Digestion it utilises the waste as a raw material to create methane, which in turn is used to generate both gas and electricity that is 100% renewable and exported to the national grid.
