Filled with beautiful moorland, chalk grasslands, picture book villages, and a dramatic coastline, many people are drawn here by the National Trails that weave their way through this special part of Yorkshire: the Cleveland Way, the Yorkshire Wolds Way and the King Charles III England Coast Path. Next year, they will be joined by another when the Coast to Coast Path National Trail goes live.At this important and exciting time, we are looking for a National Trails Officer to join us on a full-time, permanent basis, working 37 hours per week to manage and promote these wonderful assets.The BenefitsSalary between £35,235 - £38,626, with potential progression to £42,708 Local Government Pension Scheme Up to 30 days’ annual leave, plus eight public holidays Excellent training and development opportunitiesThis is a fantastic opportunity for a skilled countryside access professional to join our dedicated team and champion the beautiful landscapes in this part of Yorkshire through its National Trails.You’ll have the chance to work on exciting, impactful projects, including the establishment and designation of the Coast to Coast National Trail and a myriad of opportunities to bring people and nature closer together.What’s more, as part of our forward-thinking organisation, you’ll make a real difference in sustainability, conservation, and inclusivity in one of the UK's most iconic areas.So, if you want to lead a team delivering quality trail experiences for diverse audiences, read on and apply todayThe RoleAs a National Trails Officer, you will oversee the development, management, and promotion of several National Trails, ensuring they meet quality standards and engage new and diverse audiences.You will lead the National Trail Partnership(s) to achieve strategic objectives, whilst preparing budgets and co-ordinating resources to deliver sustainable access and meaningful engagement.Working with relevant authorities, volunteers and contractors, you will plan and co-ordinate the implementation of a maintenance programme.You will also identify opportunities for external funding to generate resources for projects supporting National Trails and develop a comprehensive marketing strategy, including effective social media promotion and maintenance of relevant websites and printed material.Additionally, you will:Line manage the National Trail Ranger, Coast to Coast Officer and volunteer teams Monitor trail conditions, public use, and attitudes through inspections and surveys Develop and promote inclusive access initiatives for underrepresented groups Prepare regular reports to advise key stakeholdersAbout YouTo be considered as a National Trails Officer, you will need:Experience of working on multi-partner projects, including liaising with agencies and individuals Experience of managing staff and volunteers in a positive working environment Experience of preparing and managing budgets and obtaining external funding Experience of managing practical maintenance projects Experience of dealing diplomatically with countryside access and rights of way issues A strong understanding of access, rights of way, countryside conservation, and sustainable tourism issues Knowledge of current legislation relating to rights of way and access To be educated to degree level (or equivalent) in a relevant subject A full, valid driving licenceThe closing date for this role is 12th February 2025.
