The Role
As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will join a small, dynamic design team to develop complex mechanical assemblies and mechanisms for food packaging machinery using advanced 3D CAD systems.
Key Responsibilities
* Design and develop mechanical components for customer and development projects
* Lead technical aspects of projects and provide guidance to junior team members
* Collaborate with electrical engineering teams to ensure integrated solutions
* Create concepts, design schemes, and production-ready documentation
* Conduct risk assessments and ensure compliance with safety standards
* Interface directly with customers during specification meetings
* Support project builds and commissioning activities
* Contribute to cost-effective design solutions
Requirements
* 5-10 years' experience designing complex mechanical assemblies using 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred)
* Working knowledge of pneumatic systems and electrical drive systems (servo technology)
* Food packaging machinery experience preferred (or transferable skills from similar industries)
* Engineering Degree (Mechanical, Mechatronics) - Minimum HNC required
* Strong 3D modelling skills with ability to produce detailed 2D drawings
* Knowledge of machinery directives and UKCA/CE marking
* Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
