The FBIRC is the Level 1 specialist inter-disciplinary neuro-rehabilitation centre serving the South West region. The centre operates within a joint working arrangement between North Bristol NHS Trust and Active Care Group.
Main duties of the job
Applications are invited for a full-time Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine, with a special interest in Neuro-rehabilitation at North Bristol NHS Trust. This post is based at the Frenchay Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre (BIRU). The BIRU is the Level 1 and 2 specialist interdisciplinary neuro-rehabilitation centre serving the South West region (29 NHSE commissioned Level 1 beds and 23 CCG commissioned Level 2 beds). The centre is a joint working partnership between North Bristol NHS Trust. The post-holder will complete the medical team of two Consultants in Rehabilitation Medicine and one Consultant Neuropsychiatrist alongside a specialist doctor and junior doctor support. We are looking to appoint a consultant who will offer a high quality, clinical service for the rehabilitation of patients with acquired brain injury, provide clinical leadership to the inter-disciplinary team and play an integral role in the further development of rehabilitation pathways across the South West. The successful candidate will be offered the opportunity to contribute to both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and the development of academic and research interests will be encouraged. There is also the possibility of appointing to the site medical director position, which is ideal for those looking for a first management role or for those who already hold medical management responsibilities within their current portfolio. The site is part of the wider Active Care Group Neuro Network.

Clinical
1. Leading the multidisciplinary team that undertakes assessments for admissions to the service within our partner acute hospital.
2. Providing outstanding, outcome-based rehabilitation care.
3. Leading the multidisciplinary team in the care and treatment of our patients, including weekly ward round review.
4. Attend family meetings, case review meetings and discharge planning meetings as required.
5. Practise evidence-based care through national standards and guidelines.
6. Provide supervision to their allocated junior doctor.
7. Prepare for and participate in external reviews (CQC, Quality Network reviews); liaison with NHSE and participation in local networks and pathways.
Management
1. Attendance, and contribution to, the Active Care Group Neuro clinical governance meeting.
2. Participate in service development, through research, innovation and local audit.
3. Continue strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, particularly our partners in the NHS.
4. Supervision and support of the site-based junior doctor.
5. Engagement in National Networks.
6. Ongoing personal development through CPD and annual appraisal (and adhering to the GMC’s “Good Medical Practice”).
Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications
1. Full registration with GMC with licence to practice.
2. MRCP (Required).
3. CCT in Rehabilitation Medicine (Required).
4. Working within an inpatient rehabilitation setting treating those with neurological or brain injury (Desirable).
5. Evidenced based practice.
6. Confidence in engaging internal and external stakeholders.
7. Patient centred, outcomes-based care.
8. Requirement for 37.5 hours a week (full time).
9. Site based clinical governance and Medical Advisory Committee Meeting.
