This is an excitingopportunity for someone with experience of 2 years as a band 6 to join the teamon Cotehele Ward, a purpose built 10 bedded unit. There will be a requirement to work shiftsover a 24-hour period and there will be the opportunity to learn and developmanagerial skills and provide clinical leadership with support from the WardManager. Cotehele is a mixed ward and specialisesin caring for patients in an acute phase of their functional mental health, predominantlyfor over 65s with physical as well as mental health challenges. Wehave input from the Home Treatment Team who gatekeep our admissions and helpfacilitate smooth discharges and the Community Team who follow up longer term. All are instrumental along with the ward team in the journey of the patient and discharge planning. The Deputy Ward Manager post is an integralsenior role within the Unit providing clinical leadership and managementsupport to the nursing team on Cotehele.We are looking for the right person who can inspire, support and overseethe delivery of the very best care, with an interest in working with over65s. The Deputy Ward Manager rolesupplements the management structure of the Ward and provides sound clinicalleadership.
We are based at TheGlenbourne Unit, an acute mental health inpatient service provided by LivewellSouthwest. The ward provides a widerange of support and treatment to those experiencing deterioratingmental health to enable their recovery.
Main duties of the job
The post holder isresponsible for the assessment of care needs and the development,implementation and evaluation of programmes of care. You will be designated totake charge regularly of the ward. In the absence of the Ward Manager you willbe responsible for the management of the ward.
The post holder isrequired to supervise junior staff and be able to teach qualified andunqualified staff, including basic and / or post basic students.
The post holderwill at all times work within the spirit of the NMC code of ProfessionalConduct for trained nurses and local policies.
The Deputy WardManager will be expected to be involved in the management and leadership of theward.
The post holderwill be required to act in a consultative role to a variety of agencies.

Clinical
