This is a Band 5/6 Midwifery Post.
An exciting opportunity has arisen across South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust to recruit self-motivated, enthusiastic, and dynamic midwives who are keen to develop and broaden their experience and skills within maternity services. Our service provides Midwifery Led care as well as Consultant Led Obstetric services to ensure personalised care to all women throughout their pregnancy and childbirth pathway. Successful candidates will be given the opportunity to work within both community and hospital settings.
As a directorate, we are committed to the development and education of our staff, supported by dedicated practice development and educational lead midwives.
Main Duties of the Job
The maternity unit offers a 24 hour, 7 day per week service covering 365 days of the year. Successful candidates will be expected to work a proportion of weekends and bank holidays, as well as rotation between day and night duty across all areas.
Applicants should be Registered Midwives on Part 10 of the NMC Professional Register and hold or be working towards a degree in midwifery. Candidates should possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be prepared to work closely within a multi-disciplinary team. You will be required to develop and expand your midwifery skills through internal rotation within all maternity settings. A flexible approach to working hours is essential.

Job Responsibilities

1. The post is rotational throughout Maternity Services, providing care to women during their pregnancy, Antenatal, Postnatal, and labour.
2. To be responsible and accountable for the delivery of safe, effective, and compassionate midwifery care for women, babies, and families designated to their care.
3. To exercise accountability as set out in the NMC Code.
4. To supervise, support, and educate junior members of the team, acting as a role model.
5. Support the shift leader or team leader to ensure organisational goals/objectives are met.
6. Ensuring that personal clinical and professional standards are maintained within the acute and community setting.
7. To ensure effective communication internally and externally regarding patient care and resources.
8. To comply with the Trust's vision, values, and behavioural compact.
Person Specification
Physical Skills
* Ability to assist patients to move as per Trust Moving and Handling Policy.
Knowledge & Skills
* Awareness of national health and social care policy.
* Knowledge of best practice in area of specialism.
* Thorough understanding of expanded roles/professional practice issues.
* Clinical teaching experience.
* Ability to provide and receive complex, sensitive, or contentious information, where persuasive, motivational, negotiating, training, empathic, or reassurance skills are required.
* Able to work without supervision.
* Competent in the use of IT packages.
* Evidence of competency in relation to midwifery practices appropriate to the post.
Qualifications
* Current NMC Registration (Midwife).
* Degree in Midwifery studies or evidence of currently working towards this (UK equivalent).
* Mentorship certificate/ Practice Assessor training or demonstrable equivalent experience.
* Management and leadership training.
Experience
* Experience as a Band 5.
* Expertise within the specialty.
* Evidence of innovation in practice.
* Experience of line management of staff.
