We are seeking to appoint an ambitious and dynamic colleague to join our high-achieving, collaborative and innovative Physics department. You will be a part of an enthusiastic team of subject specialists, known throughout the College for their breadth of experience and extensive knowledge of both their subject and teaching pedagogy, as well as their good humour and collegiate spirit. They believe that the key to unlocking Physics is through practical work, and students are inspired day after day, with high numbers continuing to choose to study Physics in the Sixth Form and at university. Engineering is a particular strength of the College and the nature of our talented and interested students means that over 15% of students progress on to a degree in engineering or Physics. Based in its own dedicated suite of laboratories, the department benefits from a wealth of equipment, which more resembles a university laboratory rather than a typical school, and all students benefit from the hands-on approach that they are provided with. This is reflected in the excellent results achieved by the Department. In 2024, at GCSE, 66% of grades awarded were 7 - 9, and at A Level, 67% of grades were A* - B.
Students also have the opportunity to take part in the Physics Olympiad, Greenpower Challenge and go on exciting trips, including an international trip to CERN and a visit to a working nuclear power station. All of these experiences allow our students to see how Physics can be used in the real world and where a qualification in Physics can take them.
The post is suitable for a teacher of Physics who shares the department’s passion for learning and teaching, whether an experienced professional or someone early in their career, who would like the chance to be mentored by a team of exceptional practitioners.
Applicants are welcome to visit by appointment prior to application to gain a full understanding of the outstanding nature of this opportunity. While a Full-Time position is preferred, the College may consider part-time applications for suitable candidates.
