We have an exciting role for a Primary Special Needs Teaching Assistant to start ASAP. The role is to work in a friendly and dynamic school in Barrow in Furness. You will be supporting pupils with special needs within small class groups and also 1:1.
The ideal person for the role will have previous experience working with young people or adults with Autism. Knowledge of PECS or Makaton is also highly desirable but not essential. As a Primary Special Needs Teaching Assistant, you will also be required to implement specific teaching programmes as instructed by 3rd party professionals such as speech and language therapists and occupational therapists.
Ideally, you will have a calm nature, as well as a proactive and nurturing attitude. Alongside the staff, you will be responsible for safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and young people.
Ideal person for the role:

2. Is a great communicator
3. Has a passion for helping young people
4. Has an understanding of Autism
5. Ideally holds a TA qualification/care qualification or has completed a degree course, but this is not essential
Sense Education can provide you with exposure to different school types and classrooms to broaden your experience. We are supportive and offer initial training for the role.
Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do, and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such, we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education, you will be paid on a weekly basis.
