Purpose of the Job
Reporting to the Micro Nav Head of Programmes who sits on the Executive Team, the incumbent provides support services to the Project Management Team. This includes the design of hardware solutions, procurement of hardware, hardware & software build & deployment, export & shipping services, and on-site installation of products. This role would suit a qualified Technical Project Manager with a networking and windows hardware deployment background.
Key Duties
1. Day to day people management
2. Design, creation and delivery of quality IT hardware solutions
3. Overseas travel
4. On-site installation support for customer hardware and software deliveries
5. Close interaction with cross business Micro Nav teams, but particularly with the Project Managers
6. Customer and vendor management
7. Ensuring that the System Delivery team designs, creates and delivers quality products to external and internal customers in accordance with the policies and procedures contained within the Integrated Management System. This requires the validation, verification and signoff of all product designs, and of hardware solutions prior to departure from the Micro Nav ‘factory’
8. Provision of hardware, software and networking designs and cost estimates as well as estimates of time required for all installation activities and research and development projects requiring hardware solutions.
9. Close interaction with the Project Management Team as well as other internal teams to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery of quality products
10. On-site support of the delivery and installation services, including close working with the Project Manager, the Quality Manager, and customer representatives to confirm that the agreed quality standards have been met in all cases
11. The management of vendors for the purchase and supply of hardware products, export and shipping services. This role will require overseas travel on a regular basis to install and manage project deployments.
Specific Responsibilities
1. Managing the System Delivery team on a day to day basis as they design, procure, build, deliver and install the hardware & software required to support the Bid and Project Management processes
2. Scheduling of resources to support each of the above noted functions
3. Ensuring that estimating of tasks is accurate and complete
4. Ensuring that the Bid process is supported with schematics, descriptions and detailed hardware scope of supply
5. Working with the Project Managers to ensure that the purchasing and delivery of products are planned and executed
6. Assisting in the export and import of products related to project deliveries
7. Ensuring that all procured items are logged and tracked using serial numbers
8. Providing technical support for the building of network and cloud based network solutions and interfacing with existing customer installations
9. Ensuring that on-site work is correctly managed to expected quality and health & safety standards; that all work is fully signed off; and that customer sites are left with a fully working and correctly documented solution prior to handover to the Trainers or Acceptance teams; This includes supporting the on-site installation team and will require global travel activity
10. Working with the IT Team to ensure that the necessary server and network management requirements are implemented in accordance with the customer requirements
11. Utilising the Goods-In/Goods-Out system that is designed to ensure that project purchases are managed in a timely (including ‘just in time’) manner
12. Working with the Finance Team to ensure accurate stock control management is undertaken for all purchased hardware products. This includes the ordering and design responsibility for each of these items
13. Management of all hardware warranty claims and failures, including; handling returns, spares replenishment and tracking failure trends.
Qualifications & Experience Required
1. Strong leadership experience of managing multi-disciplinary teams in a technical computing or software environment
2. Experience of designing, building, testing and delivering combined data, software & hardware products for customer deployments
3. Demonstratable experience of PC computing and networking requirements to meet with customer requirements together with the design and installation of such systems
4. Understanding of Microsoft Windows Server, networking and PC design for deployments in traditional, virtual and cloud-based environment
5. Strong PC literacy, good overall ICT skills and appreciation of computing hardware and software products
6. Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of tools; Outlook, Word and Excel in particular
7. Technical information gathering and analysis skills
8. Internet proficient and cyber security aware.
Education And Experience
1. Microsoft System Administrator or equivalent qualification
2. Recognised Project Management qualification
3. Experience of Microsoft Server build, deployment and troubleshooting
4. Experience of Windows virtualisation design and implementations
5. Experience of IT hardware, networking and software product delivery
6. Experience of IT hardware purchase, stock management, and export control management
7. Team management experience
8. Vendor management experience
9. Strong people management skills
10. Stakeholder management experience
Experience of ATC environment would be useful, but not essential.
