An exciting opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic, motivated and dedicated individuals to work in our Central Decontamination Unit. Duties include reprocessing surgical instrumentation to be used in a clinical setting. The Unit holds ISO 13485; 2016 accreditation and as part of the Quality Management System you will be expected to work to the highest standards.
You should have a flexible approach to work, work well under pressure and possess excellent communication and organisational skills. Experience of working within the domain of a Central Decontamination Unit is desirable but not essential as full training will be given. You are asked to note that some of the work may be repetitive and will involve manual handling of loads. You will also be required to be on your feet for the duration of your shift. Due to the amount of training involved the candidate must be full time for the first two years.
Main duties of the job
1. Responsible for the production of procedure packs and reprocessing of medical & surgical instrument sets including specialist instrumentation.
2. Ensures that work is performed to an acceptable standard and in compliance with written specifications & procedures.
3. Assists, as required, in the co-ordination of activities to meet with service demand.
4. Provides cover for colleagues in all operational areas of the unit as required.

Job responsibilities
1. Ensure that all items are prepared, assembled & packaged in accordance with defined specifications.
2. Ensure compliance with legislation and Trust Policies & Procedures.
3. Maintain effective communication lines between all grades of staff within the unit.
4. Knowledge of a wide range of surgical instrumentation, including specialist instruments.
5. Undertake the reprocessing of procedure packs, entailing the disassembly, washing, inspection / assembly and packaging of such equipment.
6. Movement of racks containing surgical instrument sets.
7. Loading & unloading of trolleys & containers containing surgical instrument sets.
Person Specification
QUALIFICATIONS
* Educated to GCSE Level with 3 passes (to include English and Maths).
* Qualification relating to sterile services.
EXPERIENCE
* Work in compliance with operational policies and procedures.
* Able to effectively operate a computerised instrument tracking system.
* Demonstrate an understanding of contamination control.
* Knowledge of the sterile services workload.
* Knowledge of a wide range of surgical instruments.
SKILLS KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY
* Able to use Microsoft and computer packages.
* Able to effectively work as part of a team.
* Able to communicate effectively with work colleagues.
