Our client is a leading set of Barristers’ Chambers based in the north of England, specialising in Civil, Family and Criminal law. Chambers has 107 Barristers including 10 King’s Counsel. Members are recognised by the leading legal directories for their skilled advocacy and the delivery of rigorous advice and representation. This newly created role is part of the Senior Leadership Team and reports directly to the Chief Executive. The Senior Fees Clerk is responsible for developing and leading a proactive and professional Fees Team to successfully manage Chambers' fee-related functions. The role involves shaping and delivering strategy, streamlining processes, and ensuring smooth and efficient revenue operations. The Senior Fees Clerk is expected to drive success in this key area of the business through effective leadership, with a strong focus on process and delivery, and fostering collaboration and communication. Key Responsibilities Lead and develop the Fees Team, setting clear goals, driving performance, and fostering a culture of accountability and growth. Implement cutting-edge billing systems, optimise workflows, and stay ahead of industry advancements to enhance efficiency. Manage all billing and fee collection activities, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and robust reporting for high-value cases. Develop points of contact for fee-related matters, building strong relationships with barristers, clients, and teams across Chambers. Analyse revenue trends and performance metrics, providing strategic recommendations to Chambers' leadership. Key Skills and Experience: A track record of managing and developing high-performing teams, with strong strategic and operational skills. Knowledge of billing, collections, and financial reporting, ideally within a legal or professional services environment. Success in implementing systems and process improvements to increase accuracy and efficiency. Confident, professional, and diplomatic in managing sensitive issues and building relationships at all levels. 7 years in senior billing or financial operations roles, ideally in a Chambers setting - familiarity with legal aid billing and public funding processes would be an advantage. Proficiency with case management software (e.g., Chambers Lex) and advanced Microsoft Office skills.
