We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated Pharmacy Technician with excellent time management, communication skills and
attention to detail to join our Clinical Trials Team.
Applicants are required to be a GPhC registered pharmacy technician with considerable hospital experience.
Clinical trial experience is not essential for this role, but would be desirable.
You will :
Review and formally assess the feasibility of potential clinical trials within pharmacy across all areas of the department. This will include the
dispensing of aseptic products and monitoring of trials run at ward level.
Help with the day to day running of current trials including training staff involved in dispensing trial medication so they feel confident and
competent.
Ensure trial medication is stored correctly and dispensed to patients safely and in accordance with regulations and legislation.
Dealing with queries from research teams, patients and undertaking requests from sponsor monitors.

• Interpret and dispense for final checking prescriptions, written for inpatients including controlled drugs, clinical trials, cytotoxic chemotherapy and total parenteral nutrition. This may include complex calculations and manipulations.
• Ensure all extemporaneous dispensing in all pharmacy departments in the Trust is carried out to the required quality, Health & safety, COSSH standards by providing all department SOPs and documentation.
• Query with the prescriber or a Pharmacist any ambiguous or illegally written prescriptions, endorsing the prescription with accurate information.
• To secure/maintain Accredited Accuracy Checking status and perform the final accuracy check of prescriptions and inpatient orders in accordance with departmental policy. To show continuous competency in checking accurately and safely.
• Ensure inpatients receive their medication at the appropriate time through effective supply from dispensaries, stores and the Aseptic Unit. This will include liaising with and providing information to nursing, portering and purchasing staff and through supervising and directing the work of ATO’s and technicians.
• Enter all dispensing, ward supply, manufacturing information and patient data accurately into the pharmacy management system(s) (computer) in real time for effective stock control and financial reporting.
• Ensure daily stock counts are carried out within all areas.
• Organise the effective communication of information between Wards/departments, theatres, and pharmacy to ensure accurate supply of drugs.
