Symphony Healthcare Services (SHS) are offering a great opportunity for a GP to join an innovative primary care / general practice setting - at Buttercross Health Centre in Somerton and The Ilchester Surgery in Ilchester, both in small but busy Somerset towns.
We have 3 sessions available, which come with a comprehensive range of sessional pay. Starting salaries will be offered based on previous experience.
Buttercross Health Centre provides healthcare services for the town of Somerton and the surrounding villages. In July 2018, The Ilchester Surgery became a branch surgery of Buttercross Health Centre, with both practice teams joining together to become one larger team, to provide healthcare services across both locations. Just over 7,500 registered patients are now part of one patient list and are able to use healthcare services at either location.
Both are friendly practices in beautiful Somerset locations, yet with the support of a network of 16 other practices behind you so you can concentrate on patient care.
Main duties of the job
As a SHS GP, you would undertake all the clinical duties associated with a GP working in primary care, without the responsibilities and risks associated with being a partner. We can offer opportunities from salaried through to employed and consultant level GP posts depending on your experience and the level of responsibility you take on at the practice.
All GPs working for us are paid as employees, unlike Partners, which means less risk for you and more time to focus on patient care. We put patients first, with our employed and consultant GPs working flexibly according to need, so contributing to areas such as QOF, QI, training and research projects providing a huge amount of variety to the role. However, our Salaried GPs have a clearly defined job plan setting out the hours of work and responsibilities associated with the role.
Through annual appraisal, we encourage career development and progression and are keen to support GPs who wish to extend their role, or have specialist skills which can be utilised in primary care. We recognise that some GPs will wish to stay salaried, and some will wish to assume more responsibility once they have found their feet and aspire to employed or consultant roles.
About us
Symphony Healthcare Services (SHS) was established in 2016 as part of the award-winning Symphony Programme Vanguard, developing new models of care.
SHS has developed a model where each practice is encouraged to operate autonomously, but as a subsidiary of NHS Somerset Foundation Trust (SFT), and with the backing and economies of scale from a central support team (particularly for HR, finance, corporate & strategic management matters).
Providing NHS services is at the heart of what we do. Our vision is to ensure that primary care is sustainable for patients and practices in Somerset, and we aim to be a national exemplar for primary care provision.
By working at scale in primary care in Somerset we can offer you the opportunity to develop specialist skills with the support of a larger organisation to develop your GP career. Key benefits of working as a GP for SHS:
* flexible roles and working options
* a Mentorship Scheme for newly qualified GPs who will be supported by a GP Trainer
* freedom to join our new in-house GP locum agency, Symphony Flex, with additional competitive pay rates
SHS welcomes applications from people of all backgrounds and underrepresented groups. When undertaking recruitment and selection for our services, SHS is committed to equality of opportunity for all.
SHS offers a fantastic range of employee benefits including NHS / NEST pensions and salary sacrifice schemes (see attached poster).
We look forward to hearing from you.
Job responsibilities
Whilst primarily based at Buttercross and Ilchester surgeries, this role will require you to work as part of the new, innovative and forward-thinking Contact Hub, which is situated in South Petherton Medical Centre.
The Contact Hub is a central point of contact for patients and facilitates a comprehensive triaging process, to ensure people are seen as soon as possible, by the best person.

If you are successfully appointed as a GP at one of the above practices within any of the above PCN GP practices, you will also be required to work on a rotational basis at the Contact Hub.
You will therefore need access to a car / public transport to travel to the Contact Hub to fulfil the full duties and expectations of this role. Please consider this before applying.
Rota details will be discussed with you at interview stage.
See attached Job description and person specification (JD) for a full list of job responsibilities, tasks and expectations. Please read this in full before applying.
