Our client in SW London requires a Physio to join their team.
The Neuro Physiotherapist is responsible for providing a comprehensive specialist physiotherapy service to our client for patients requiring neuro-rehabilitation. The role holder will:
1. Be an active member of the inter-disciplinary team.
2. Assess and treat own caseload of patients who have a neurological diagnosis and may have a complex presentation.
3. Be keyworker for the patients and act as a point of contact between patients, their families and the MDT.
4. Work within professional standards and clinical guidelines, promote best practice and undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.
5. Facilitate appropriate referrals, and understand the roles within the neuro rehabilitation team.
6. Participate in the weekly timetabling meetings in conjunction with head of physiotherapy and prioritise and ensure a timely response for assessments and treatments.
7. Be responsible for the supervision of junior staff, including physiotherapists, rehabilitation assistants and physiotherapy students.
8. Support self and service development through active participation in continuing professional development (CPD) and by participating in any audit or research being undertaken by the service.
9. Be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work and ensure that work meets professional standards and clinical guidelines.
10. Undertake uni-professional, multi-professional and neuro-specialist physiotherapy assessments using evidence-based outcome measures, in various settings (e.g., Ascot Inpatient rehabilitation centre, patients' home, out-patient clinic, or community setting).
11. Patients will be 16 years and over and are likely to have complex multi-pathologies (including acquired or progressive neurological conditions, musculoskeletal conditions, respiratory disease, cognitive impairment, mental health disorders, and age-related conditions). The caseload will also include people who have had a stroke who require early specialist stroke rehabilitation.
12. Be responsible for gaining valid, informed consent for assessment and treatment interventions, and sharing of information following legal and professional guidelines.
13. Formulate diagnoses and establish impairments and disabilities where conflicting evidence is present following assessments.
14. Following specialist assessment, use advanced clinical reasoning, analysis, and assessment and re-assessment skills and using a patient-centred goal setting approach, to provide individual physiotherapy treatments and programmes. These treatment techniques may include manual physiotherapy treatment techniques, patient education, home exercise programmes, electrotherapy techniques and other physiotherapy treatment techniques.
15. Through advanced clinical reasoning and analysis, identify patient's needs, establish clinical risk and liaise and refer patients to relevant services including other Healthcare Services, Healthcare Professionals and Voluntary agencies as appropriate.
16. Prescribe appropriate equipment and educate patients in the safe use of this equipment, in order to maximise patients' independence and safety.
17. Work closely with other members of the inter-disciplinary Neuro Rehabilitation team to provide a comprehensive, seamless service, aiming to improve and maintain functional ability of patients referred to our client.
18. Attend relevant multi-disciplinary meetings and or case meetings related to patient care.
19. Communicate information related to complex conditions from assessment through treatment and discharge to patients, carers and families.
20. Motivate and persuade others through advanced communication skills and gain cooperation for treatment where there may be significant barriers to understanding such as dementia.
21. Demonstrate skill in motivating patients and managing conflict across a range of situations in a verbal, written, formal and informal manner.
22. Work with other members of the multi-professional team to run therapy groups on an as-needed basis.
23. Develop, update and present Physiotherapy specific patient and carer education presentations to patients and carers.
24. Work collaboratively with interpreters in assessment and ongoing intervention with clients for whom English is an additional language as appropriate.
