To effectively manage staff under the guidance of UHB policies and procedures. This will include managing sickness within the Clinical Coding Department, counselling and supporting staff in respect of performance and training and developmental needs etc. To establish and maintain a comprehensive appraisal/Personal development programme (PDP) for all staff, in collaboration with the Head of Clinical Coding, paying particular attention to the recruitment and retention of staff. To ensure that service objectives are met, within the UHB performance management framework. To ensure that local coding policies are regularly reviewed and updated, ensuring consistency with Data Quality at national standards and local policies. To identify the training needs of staff within the department and to devise and implement a programme of training and/or liaise with external training companies. To ensure that all staff who assign clinical codes have attended a recognised course in clinical coding and to provide support for staff taking the National Clinical Coding Qualification. To devise and implement a Clinical Coding Audit Programme in conjunction with the Head of Clinical Coding, in order to continually assess the quality of clinical coding within the UHB, developing action plans to make improvements and/or resolve issues wherever necessary. Ensure adherence to national standards and agreed protocols, ensuring that in-depth coding is taken from the medical record in accordance with UHB policy. To evaluate and implement any recommendations arising from specific clinical coding/data quality audits in conjunction with the Head of Clinical Coding. To devise a programme in conjunction with the Clinical Coding Management Team, to raise awareness and to educate clinicians and Directorate staff on all aspects of Clinical Coding and its contribution to the clinical management and business of the UHB. To provide Clinical Coding Awareness presentations to clinicians and managers. To undertake routine data quality audits as directed by the Head of Clinical Coding. In liaison with the clinical analysts, and information colleagues undertake specific coding information projects to support the Clinical Governance agenda. To review as appropriate operational procedures, ensuring compliance with Digital Healthcare Wales and CfH guidance and data dictionary definitions on an ongoing basis in co-operation with key managers and colleagues. Ensure proposed developments are consistent with current ICD-10 and OPCS manuals, applying rules and conventions to agreed standards. Communicate the outcomes of clinical coding audit activity and the resulting changes in practice throughout the UHB. Identify coding trends and issues pertinent to clinical audit and advise Clinical Governance agendas accordingly. To manage Health and Safety within the Clinical Coding Environment and to liaise with the Health Records Manager.
