The Registered Nurse/ODP is an integral part of the MDT in providing care to patients who attend for diagnostic or therapeutic treatments. The unique and varied nature of the specialty means that there is always something new and interesting to learn. Due to the diversity of patients who attend for treatment, Radiology has the ability to care for a wide range of patients of all ages, from Emergency, Medical, Surgical and Oncology specialties.

Working across UHL's Leicester Royal Infirmary, Leicester General Hospital, and Glenfield Hospital, we offer flexible working hours Monday to Friday.
Main duties of the job
* To support colleagues in the day-to-day delivery of services.
* Problem solve issues that arise with day case and inpatient admissions to a busy unit.
* To actively contribute in the support of qualified team members, unqualified team members, student nurses, and new staff.
Job responsibilities
* To act as a clinical expert and professional resource to the multi-disciplinary team, patients, and carers across Interventional Radiology.
* To provide high standards of patient care ensuring a quality service is delivered to patients and their families attending the Radiology Department in accordance with Trust Practices, Policies, and professional bodies.
* To participate in the emergency on-call service following an appropriate training period.
* Deputise and take charge of the given area in the absence of the Deputy Ward Leader.
* Maintain high standards of quality nursing care.
* Act as a role model, mentoring, teaching, assessing, and supporting students, learners, and new staff on placement and participate in the education, development, and mentorship of other staff.
* Effective use of the resources available.
* To assist within a scrub role for interventional and invasive procedures.
* To adapt to a stressful environment characterized by frequent variation in workload and urgent procedures.
* To acquire and demonstrate knowledge and skills applicable to Interventional Radiology - specialist skills include monitoring of patients' cardiovascular state, pain control, sedation, and medication.
* Maintain accurate records of care received during all stages of the patient care pathway.
* Interventional Radiology requires employees to wear personal protective equipment (lead aprons) in compliance with the Departmental Radiation Protection Policies and Rules.
* The frequent use of Trust-approved manual handling and lifting techniques for transferring of patients from trolley, bed, or chair to x-ray tables and vice-versa.
* Undertake the correct handling and disposal of blood and bodily fluids following diagnostic screening and interventional invasive procedures.
* Report any changes in the patients' condition to the more senior Nurses and Radiologists, seeking advice and support as appropriate.
* Ensure patients and relatives are kept informed of the investigation and its progress.
* Provide the handover of care post-procedurally to Ward staff and other Departmental staff.
* Liaising with Ward staff and Departments to ensure smooth running of lists and the continuity of care.
* Liaise with other professional groups, i.e., Infection Control, Diabetic Specialist Team, Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation Officer, and Risk Management for support with specific problems.
* On-call from home duties.
