Role Overview
IMC Group are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Speech and Language Therapist for a client in Buckinghamshire, focusing on supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs. This role provides an exciting opportunity for a Band 5/6 SEN SLT to work in an educational or clinical setting, developing your skills in SEN support. You will deliver assessments, create tailored therapy plans, and provide interventions to support children and young people in improving their communication abilities and social interaction skills.
Main Duties
1. Provide a speech and language therapy service to meet the needs of pupils across the academy.
2. Deliver a continuing professional development programme for school staff in line with the school's development plan.
3. Embed therapeutic strategies across the curriculum to support a wide range of SLCN.
4. Provide specialist interventions as part of a holistic integrated approach.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Speech and Language Therapy or equivalent.
Registration with the HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council).
Some experience or placements involving children with SEN is preferred, but new graduates with relevant training and enthusiasm for SEN work are encouraged to apply.
Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills
1. Recognised professional qualification in Speech and Language Therapy.
2. HCPC and RCSLT registration.
3. Evidence of working within a multidisciplinary team with children or adults with communication needs.
4. Evidence of participating in/running training for communication partners of children with SLCN needs.
5. Evidence of application of theoretical underpinning of practice.
6. Evidence of application of functional, goal-oriented, outcome-focused interventions within a school context.
Clinical Responsibilities
1. Demonstrate good clinical knowledge in the assessment, treatment, and management of a wide range of language and communication difficulties in young people from 5-19 years of age.
2. Make differential diagnoses and clinical decisions based on evidence from assessment.
3. Develop a high level of knowledge and skills in supporting the language and communication needs of young people with SEMH and ASC.
4. Develop speech and language therapy care plans based on best practice.
5. Train education staff to incorporate specialist strategies and intervention approaches into their practice.
6. Participate in the delivery of a programme of continuing professional development for teaching and support staff.
7. Work collaboratively with professional colleagues in other services.
8. Communicate complex condition-related information from assessment to clients, carers, families, and members of the multidisciplinary team.
9. Manage groups of students with support, employing appropriate management strategies.
10. Monitor and review the progress of clients against the targets set.
11. Provide cover across the service during staff shortages.
12. Write accurate records fulfilling legal and professional requirements.
13. Critically evaluate new and existing intervention methods and models of service delivery.
14. Write highly specialist pupil-related reports for EHCP plans.
15. Manage own time to meet key objectives agreed with the SENCO/Head of Campus/Lead SLT and OT.
16. Implement service-specific outcome measurements.
17. Manage clinical audit as required.
18. Recognise situations where service effectiveness is compromised and take appropriate action.
19. Reflect on personal performance to enhance future practice.
20. Participate in arrangements for the appraisal of personal performance.
21. Ensure that all activities are risk assessed and documented.
22. Offer clinical placements for student SaLTs and apprentice SaLTs.
