The Urology unit is looking for a caring, compassionate, and motivated individual to join our team of Consultants, Doctors, Nurses, and admin staff. We have the privilege of providing care for a variety of patients and work closely as a team across the bay to ensure all patients receive exceptional care. The main duties of the role include:
1. Assisting in the smooth running of Urology outpatient clinics.
2. Being the main registered nurse on site.
3. Responsibility for audits and health and safety.
4. Daily checks on the unit, including the crash trolley.
5. Reporting any non-compliance, e.g., broken equipment or failure of audit.
6. Providing communication and emotional support to patients.
7. Supporting a one-stop clinic by navigating patients through tests and procedures.
8. Assisting Consultants and Doctors with their independent clinics.
9. Carrying out a flow test for a patient (with training).
10. Maintaining a safe, clean, and healthy working environment.
11. Accurate documentation and communication.
12. Utilising trust and unit-specific IT systems.
13. Performing clinical skills with suitable training, such as assisting a flexible cystoscopy list, taking bloods, and supporting urodynamics studies.
14. Responsibility and training of junior staff.
This role requires the ability to communicate and empathise with people living with urological conditions. A successful candidate must be considerate and compassionate in sensitive situations.
We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units, and various Consultant-led services. WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with non-life-threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case, and inpatient surgery. Additionally, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
