Job Title: Managing Associate - Projects, Infrastructure & Construction
We are recruiting for a Managing Associate to join our Projects, Infrastructure & Construction (PIC) team. This role is a full-time, permanent opportunity, and will further strengthen our existing PIC team that operates on a national basis. The Projects, Infrastructure and Construction team has enjoyed significant growth and investment. Nationally, the PIC team has expertise across a range of sectors including Energy, Infrastructure, Real Estate and PFI/the Public Sector and undertakes both contentious, non-contentious Construction and projects related work. PIC sits within the firm’s Commercial Services Group and acts for private and public sector clients across the UK and further afield.
Your Role
As a senior contentious construction specialist, you will contribute to the firm's knowledge and expertise within Projects, Infrastructure and Construction, and have the opportunity to:
1. Work for high calibre clients on complex contractual issues, and to ‘lead’ on such matters where appropriate.
2. Represent clients in adjudication, arbitration and Technology and Construction Court proceedings.
3. Work with clients and their professional teams, providing legal advice on live projects.
4. Build relationships with new clients and existing clients of the firm.
5. Develop your skills, knowledge and construction law expertise.
6. Contribute to team strategic planning and business development activities.
7. Contribute to the supervision and development of junior fee earners across the team.
8. Play a real part in the further development of the national PIC team, and assist the firm in achieving its long-term business aspirations.
Your Skills & Experience
You will be/have:
1. A Qualified Solicitor (SRA or Law Society Registered), already operating at Senior Associate or Legal Director/Managing Associate level, within a highly regarded Projects/Construction team.
2. Experience and knowledge of complex Construction Law matters involving issues such as delay and disruption, defects, payment, and building safety defects.
3. Prior experience in providing strategic advice to clients looking to avoid and/or manage disputes.
4. Experience of supervising and collaborating with more junior colleagues on large scale cases.
5. A forward thinker, with excellent analytical, communication and organisational skills, you will be self-motivated with the ability to manage workloads and deadlines.
6. Commercially aware with exposure to business development, with the ability to maintain and nurture strong client relationships.
7. Able to develop a deep understanding of your clients’ business needs, and act in the best interest of the firm and the client.
8. Eager to contribute to our collaborative culture, with an ambition to assist in the development of junior team members.
Your Team
Our Projects, Infrastructure & Construction team have extensive experience in transactional aspects of construction, engineering, energy and infrastructure projects, as well as expertise in dispute management and resolution in these areas. We have a significant record of advising UK infrastructure projects, in particular in the clean energy and transport sectors including on high-value complex disputes.
We work with corporate clients of all sizes – complex engineering service providers, vessel designers, global manufacturers and retailers, major national and regional builders, and commercial land developers are regular clients. We also work with registered housing associations and public bodies including local authorities, police forces and other governmental departments and agencies.
