GSL Education are looking for an experienced school Caretaker/Handyman to assist a school in Birmingham. This is a full-time, ongoing position, and your working hours would be Monday to Friday from September 2024. School holidays and weekends may be required as additional work throughout the year.
As a School Caretaker, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring the smooth running of the school premises, ensuring a safe and well-maintained environment for staff and students. Caretakers play a vital role in the maintenance and security of the school grounds. You will be responsible for day-to-day maintenance, providing cleaning, gardening, building maintenance, and support across the site.
Responsibilities will include:
1. Opening and closing the building, ensuring the site is safe and secure.
2. Carrying out general maintenance and minor repairs.
3. Checking heating, lighting, and alarm systems.
4. Moving furniture and arranging chairs and tables for meetings or assemblies.
5. Routine maintenance of school buildings and grounds, including minor repair work, such as changing light bulbs, erecting shelves, painting and redecorating, minor plumbing, and grounds maintenance including grass-cutting.
6. Cleaning duties including litter, bins, and toilets; assistance with deep cleaning of classrooms and school pool/changing rooms.
7. Porterage of heavy objects, such as stock, furniture, or equipment.
8. Ensuring the school has sufficient stock of cleaning resources.
9. Overseeing external contractors visiting the school site.
10. Having a full working knowledge of all cleaning equipment, materials, and approved chemicals.
11. Ensuring all Safeguarding Policies are always adhered to and raising any concerns in line with school policy.
Requirements:
1. Hold a right to work within the UK.
2. Enhanced DBS Child and Adult Check – Must be on the update service. (We can assist you with a DBS if you do not have one).
3. 2x Educational References are a must in order to clear your file with GSL.
