Due to our established current workload and future projects pipeline we are currently looking for a talented and motivated Principal Engineer with a genuine passion for civil engineering and management of projects to join our Highways teams across the UK. This role is based in our Leeds office and can be flexible with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office and the option of adjusted start and finish times. Our highway engineering teams are recognised industry leaders and operate across several markets including the strategic road network, local roads and private developments through a series of investment programmes, professional service frameworks and bespoke project commissions. We work for a wide range of clients including national government agencies, local authorities, private developers and contractors. We use the latest design software and techniques to produce innovative, efficient and sustainable design solutions for our clients. What does the role involve? Working as part of the Leeds Highways team on a variety of projects in the regional and local authority highway sectors, you will act as Principal Engineer to undertake and check the delivery of design solutions and coordinate with other disciplines. You will be responsible for: Delivery of multi-disciplinary projects in accordance with our Project Management Framework Ensuring consistency of design approach and deliverable outputs within the project portfolio Supporting the technical and professional development of colleagues. Bid management to clarify the project brief, agree deliverables, key milestones and project methodology. Undertaking the detailed design and checking of outputs as directed, such as calculations, models, drawings, sketches and reports. Documenting and communicating design changes to clients directly Occasionally coordinating a design team and be involved in planning workload and allocating resources Taking ownership and responsibility for the quality of work you produce, ensuring that work is delivered in line with the agreed timescales Understanding and complying with our Company Integrated Management system and all relevant health and safety legislation Recommend and implementing improvements to technical policy, processes and design solutions and share via the knowledge management channels Developing meaningful and lasting relationships with a portfolio of clients to ensure repeat business. To be successful in this role you ll possess: A desire to work in a team, and a great attitude - collaboration will come naturally to you. An academic qualification, such as a master s degree in civil engineering or equivalent. A recognised professional qualification such as CEng or IEng with the ICE, CIHT or other relevant institutions Relevant post-qualification engineering design experience and project delivery in highways and infrastructure projects. This could be either pre-planning services, or post-planning detailed design experience. Good organisational and project management skills as required to support multiple live projects. Experience of highways alignment modelling software such as AutoDesk Civil 3D or Bentley OpenRoads Designer, with some recent experience of undertaking highway, earthworks and drainage design. Technical knowledge of subject matter is expected. AutoCAD experience is essential. A working knowledge of MS Office 365 tools. Experience of resource or commercial management on multi-disciplinary projects. Strong analytic and problem-solving skills and an interest in finding quick, innovative and practical solutions. The ability to organise and prioritise a design team s workload to ensure that project timescales are met. The ability to travel to sites and offices within the UK when required, a driving license would be helpful but not essential to the role.
