Responsibilities:
* Ensure timely submission of tenders and meet return deadlines.
* Conduct thorough and accurate cost analysis to produce complete, competitive tenders.
* Secure profitable projects that align with the company’s short- and long-term goals.
* Manage and allocate estimating team resources for each tender opportunity, overseeing the submission process.
* Ensure all tenders are comprehensively reviewed and qualified before submission.
* Identify risks and opportunities within tenders, proposing effective mitigation strategies.
* Provide status reports on tenders and projects to the Directors.
* Assess available tenders objectively and offer clear reasoning for recommendations.
* Regularly review and update estimating documentation and rates.
* Collate estimating data to improve future tender processes, identifying areas for growth and improvement.
* Periodically check and set new rates within the estimating software as required.
* Undertake site visits when needed.
Skills and Experience:
* Expertise in building estimates from first principles, tailored to the specific scope of each project.
* Proficient in quantity take-offs and understanding rates for key construction elements.
* Strong understanding of buildability and its implications for estimating and pricing.
* Ability to evaluate project programs and recommend efficient construction methods and techniques for cost-effective bidding.
* In-depth technical knowledge of various construction methods and their impact on the estimating process.
* Ability to leverage past project experience to develop estimates based on knowledge, not just schedules of rates.
* A solid understanding of general contracting, sub-contract packages, and construction contracts (JCT, NEC, D&B, etc.).
* Ideally experienced with estimating software and take-off tools at an analytical level.
* Familiarity with construction methodology, output measurement, and general contracting processes.
* Previous experience in new builds, fit-outs, and various construction methods.
Qualifications/IT Skills Requirements:
Degree or HNC in Quantity Surveying or a related field is preferable.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Experience with MS Project for tender programming is beneficial.
Familiarity with estimating software and take-off tools is advantageous.
Salary: £40,000 - £50,000, based on experience.
