Field Engineer - Pressure Compliance

The Pressure Compliance Team is crucial to the successful delivery of Hinkley Point C (HPC), coordinating and managing surveillance activities, interfacing directly with the HPC contract partners and internal stakeholders to provide assurance of the work performed.
Principal Accountabilities
The IIA Field Engineer (On-site) will be required to:
* Perform surveillance of the installation of piping components and pressure systems in accordance with the applicable requirements and notify the Construction Superintendent of non-conformance request requirements
* Submit details of any non-conformance request requirements to assist in the issuing of non-conformance reports
* Proactively communicate with other site teams, maintain good communication and ensure surveillance is timely reported
* Contribute surveillance information to support KPI indicators
* Endeavour to identify potential issues before they arrive to enable mitigating actions
* Support team instructions to take temporary measures to mitigate and keep works safe and within requirements - follow up by taking appropriate and proportionate action (e.g. issue communications, call meetings) to prevent the halt of works
* Ensure design decisions are not taken "in the field", but are considered and approved via a formal process
* Enhance the team with a good perspective of current and future site activities
* Develop and maintain an understanding of construction drawings, construction activities, Inspection and Test Plans and Records.
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Required:
* Mechanical Engineering, Materials, Welding qualifications or equivalent vocational training and experience
* Broad knowledge and wide understanding of the Engineering Construction industry, materials, trades methods and legal requirements
* Excellent organisation, delegation, and good communication skills (knowledge of French can be an advantage).
* Proven experience of writing diaries which are accurate, concise and with relevance to the particular form of contract.
* Proven track record of working within a large construction team.
* Good attention to detail when checking work and materials. And the ability to maintain quality standards in a high-pressure environment.
* Able to establish appropriate working relationships with the contractors.
* Working knowledge of relevant British & European standards, construction and design codes/guidelines such as RCC-M, BS EN and ASME.
* Knowledge of the documentation used in safety critical construction and fabrication environments such as Inspection and Test Plans, End of Erection Status Reports.
* The successful candidate will demonstrate experience working or studying the fields of metallurgy, welding, and NDT.
* Experience in weld inspection on large construction projects.
Desirable:
* A welding inspector qualification (e.g. CSWIP 3.1 or equivalent) as well as a basic 'appreciation of NDT' qualification is strongly desirable. The candidate may be supported through these qualifications if they have the right profile.
* Higher level qualifications in both welding (CSWIP 3.2, IWS etc.) and NDT (PCN or equivalent) would be desirable although are not essential for the fulfilment of this role.
* Experience in large power plant design, manufacture and construction.
* Good working knowledge of Quality Management practices, methods and processes.
* Knowledge of the fabrication and installation of pressure systems.
