Job Title: Band 7 CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) Complex Care Mental Health Nurse
Reports to: Clinical Manager
Job Purpose
To provide specialist mental health nursing care for children and adolescents with complex mental health needs, using evidence-based approaches, including Positive Behavioural Support (PBS). The role involves mobilizing crisis intervention packages, delivering tailored care plans, and working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to support young people and their families during periods of acute mental health difficulties.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership
* Deliver high-quality, evidence-based care for young people with complex mental health needs, ensuring alignment with national guidelines and best practices.
* Implement and oversee crisis intervention packages, ensuring timely mobilization and effective support during critical periods.
* Apply Positive Behavioral Support (PBS) frameworks to assess, develop, and implement personalized care plans.
* Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and implement risk management strategies to ensure safety and well-being.
* Supervise and support junior staff, ensuring clinical interventions are delivered effectively and in accordance with care plans.
Collaboration and Coordination
* Work closely with families, carers, and external agencies to provide holistic and person-centered care.
* Act as a liaison between CAMHS, crisis teams, and community services to ensure seamless care transitions.
* Coordinate multidisciplinary team meetings to review and adapt care plans based on changing needs.
* Provide expert advice and training to professionals and families on mental health strategies, PBS techniques, and crisis management.
Service Development
* Contribute to the development and review of policies, procedures, and pathways for complex care within CAMHS.
* Identify gaps in service provision and propose innovative solutions to enhance care delivery.
* Lead quality improvement initiatives to ensure services are responsive, effective, and sustainable.
Education and Training
* Mentor and train junior staff and students in CAMHS, complex care, PBS approaches, and crisis intervention strategies.
* Stay updated on developments in mental health care, PBS methodologies, and crisis intervention to inform practice.
Documentation and Compliance
* Maintain accurate, up-to-date, and confidential clinical records in line with professional and organizational standards.
* Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, safeguarding protocols, and clinical governance standards.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) with valid NMC registration.
* Postgraduate qualification in CAMHS, PBS, or a related field (desirable).
* Evidence of ongoing professional development.
Experience
* Significant experience working with children and adolescents with complex mental health needs.
* Proven track record of mobilizing and delivering crisis intervention packages.
* Experience in using Positive Behavioral Support (PBS) frameworks.
* Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team within a healthcare setting.
