Key Duties To accompany patients where clinical support is indicated To chaperone patients as required To undertake basic observations such as blood pressure, pulse, respiration, temperature, height and weight measurements, record and report results to qualified staff To ensure that patients receive care appropriate to their needs To assist in the setting up and cleaning of clinic spaces, trolleys and disposal of clinical waste To respond appropriately to clinical emergencies To answer telephone calls and take messages informing appropriate persons of the call To assist in the transferring of patients using correct manual handling techniques and equipment as appropriate To report to qualified staff, without delay, any observed change in a patients condition or any concern expressed by a patient about nursing care or medical treatment Demonstrate knowledge of Health and Safety at work in order to maintain a safe environment To maintain professional and personal development Use of phlebotomy skills if appropriately trained Undertake mandatory and local training appropriate to the role To act always in a manner which promotes positive working relationships and maintains the professional image of the Trust Communication and Relationships The Healthcare Assistants relationship with both staff and patients should be discreet, bearing in mind that all information regarding patients must be kept confidential Report to the nurse-in-charge of department matters of concern relating to patients and the department environment Answer the telephone, referring to the appropriate person when required Be aware of the need to greet visitors to the department and ascertain the reason for their visit Ensure the privacy and dignity of patients at all times Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of health and safety at work in order to maintain a safe environment To attend departmental meetings as appropriate Administrative To undertake a range of clerical duties including o Reception and telephone duties o Basic computer skills and use of Trust IT systems o Stock control and ordering Cleaning Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of the area and equipment as instructed and complete all necessary paperwork relating to this in line with trust guidelines.
