Merco Medical Staffing is proud to be partnering with a leading UK charity in their search for a dedicated Mental Health Act Administrator to join their specialist team in York.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a crucial role in supporting mental health services, ensuring compliance with the Mental Health Act and maintaining high-quality administrative support within a multidisciplinary setting.
About the Role:
As a Mental Health Act Administrator, you’ll be a key part of the team supporting the Mental Health Legislation and Safeguarding Manager, clinicians, and rehabilitation staff. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure that all administration linked to the Mental Health Act (MHA), Mental Capacity Act (MCA), and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) is accurate, compliant, and completed in a timely manner.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide effective clerical support to clinical and nursing staff
2. Maintain and file medical records in line with policy
3. Coordinate MHA paperwork and ensure all documents are legally correct
4. Organise Hospital Managers Hearings and tribunals, including reports
5. Monitor and send reminders for Section 17 reviews and Section 132 rights
6. Support regular audits for MHA, MCA, and DoLS
7. Act as a source of advice for clerical processes and procedures
8. Liaise with internal teams and external professionals to share critical information
9. Provide admin cover across the service when needed
About You:
1. 4 or more GCSEs (or equivalent qualifications)
2. Previous healthcare administration experience, particularly working with medical records
3. Solid working knowledge of the Mental Health Act and related legislation
4. Able to manage competing priorities and work calmly under pressure
5. A professional and compassionate manner when interacting with patients, staff, and external agencies
6. Flexible and willing to support the wider admin team during absences
