Join our team as a Health and Safety Manager and play a crucial part in projects of all sizes, scopes, and scales. You'll find plenty of opportunities to grow and challenge yourself across your technical, people, stakeholder, and management responsibilities. Supporting the Markets and Practices within Transportation, you will help develop and deliver various plans and initiatives to support the delivery of a safe and healthy workplace where our people can thrive.
This is a full-time, fixed-term contract role for the duration of 2 years with hybrid working of approx. 2-3 days to be office or site-based (national travel). The office location is Birmingham (preferred) but could be negotiated.
Your purpose:
* Supporting the development of strategic business plans, you'll be responsible for cascading and communicating targeted campaigns within the markets and practices.
* Working alongside the leadership teams, you'll identify risk profiles and tailor initiatives that align with UK&I and Transportation business plans.
* Provide day-to-day operational support to the Transportation teams.
* Monitor incident reports, support investigations, and provide competent advice and guidance where required.
* As a confident and experienced health and safety professional, you'll provide subject matter expert and technical advice, offering business partnering support.
* Proactively promote safe by design principles and effective ‘top down’ risk management controls.
* Attend and support leadership meetings, developing and delivering risk-based best practices and lessons learned materials as appropriate.
* Provide delegation support to the Head of Health and Safety for Strategic Rail, Highways, and Local Transport.
* Complete audit and assurance activities and support visible safety leadership engagement activities.
What you can bring:
* Hold a recognised safety health and environmental certificate level qualification and be working towards a diploma (minimum).
* A recognised relevant professional membership (e.g. IOSH or IIRSM) and be maintaining CPD.
* Experience of working within the transportation sector, either in a rail, highways, or local authority environment (preferred).
* Experience of incident investigation and analysing performance data to give insight and develop lessons learned materials.
* Strong working knowledge of regulatory requirements including CDM 2015 and duty holder responsibilities.
* Being a high-level user of Microsoft Office applications, you'll be able to develop interactive and informative material that facilitates valuable health safety and wellbeing conversations.

Security clearance:
This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary, it will be discussed with you at interview. The vetting process is delivered by United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV) and may require candidates to provide proof of residency in the UK of 5 years or longer.
