We’re looking for a passionate and creative Children’s Play Assistant to join the Play Team at Dougie Mac Children’s Services. This role is integral to delivering safe, stimulating, and meaningful play opportunities for children and young people with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions, as well as their families. Working closely with the Children’s Care Team, you’ll help create an environment that supports their emotional, physical, developmental needs and making memories.
Key Responsibilities
* Implement individual and group play interventions tailored to the needs and interests of children.
* Prepare and manage resources, ensuring activities are safe, creative, and age-appropriate.
* Work alongside registered nurses to support care plans for children with complex health needs.
* Contribute to the planning and delivery of special events and youth clubs.
* Support siblings, including during end-of-life care and bereavement.
* Maintain accurate and confidential records in line with hospice policies.
* Promote the importance of play within the care team and to families.
* Ensure all safeguarding policies and procedures are followed.
About You
You’ll be a caring and adaptable individual with a genuine passion for supporting children with complex needs. Bringing creativity and energy to your role, you’ll enjoy working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Experience working with children aged 0-18 years, ideally with complex or additional needs.
* Strong communication skills and the ability to engage with children and families.
* A good understanding of child development and safeguarding.
* Relevant qualifications, such as an NVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent in play, childcare, or a related field.
* A flexible and proactive approach to work, including occasional evening or weekend shifts.
* A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Salary: Starting at £23,100
Hours: Full time and Part time contract available (from 22.5 to 37.5 hours)
