Description We seek applications for a Research Fellow in the field of galaxy and AGN evolution, to advance our understanding of galaxy evolution, and the role of active galactic nuclei in this process across cosmic time. The Opportunity: The successful candidate will join the research group led by Professor Philip Best at the Institute for Astronomy (IfA) at the University of Edinburgh. They will lead a high-quality programme of original research in galaxy and AGN evolution, and provide support to Professor Best in leading his research group during his time as Head of School. Candidates with an interest in pursuing research related to the LOFAR extragalactic radio surveys and the JWST Emission Line Survey are particularly welcomed. This post is full-time (35 hours per week); however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns. We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working. The salary for this post is UE08 £49,250- £60,321 per annum. The post is fixed term for 48 months, with a start date ideally between 1 st May 2025 and 1st October 2025. Your skills and attributes for success: PhD and postdoctoral research experience in galaxy evolution and/or AGN. Strong record of high-quality lead-author and co-authored refereed journal publications Demonstrated ability to work independently, exercising a high degree of initiative Experience of leading activity within a collaboration, or of supporting the work of junior colleagues Ability to lead research projects and proposals, with effective prioritisation of tasks. Ability to communicate complex information clearly, orally and in writing. Experience of working with large, multi-wavelength datasets and advanced data analysis techniques.
