Technical Manager
We are working with a leading player in the fresh produce industry, dedicated to delivering high-quality products while upholding the highest standards of food safety, sustainability, and ethical sourcing. We are seeking a Technical Manager to join the business and ensure compliance, quality, and strong relationships with both customers and suppliers.
The Role
As a Technical Manager, you will be responsible for maintaining technical compliance, ensuring product quality, and managing relationships with key stakeholders. You will work closely with our Technical, Procurement, and Commercial teams, as well as major retailers and suppliers, to uphold our commitment to excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Build and maintain proactive relationships with customer technical teams and suppliers,
Manage and maintain all customer product specifications, quality attribute sheets, and packaging requirements.
Investigate and resolve customer complaints, product withdrawals, recalls, and exceedances while implementing corrective and preventive actions.
Ensure all food safety and quality standards are met at all times.
Maintain and report on customer and technical KPIs.
Conduct supplier visits, quality checks, and crop walks, supporting both internal teams and external partners.
Ensure compliance with customer policies, codes of practice, and sustainability goals.
Monitor and assess pesticide and microbiological risk, ensuring all testing is carried out effectively.
Support ethical sourcing, sustainability initiatives, and benchmarking assessments to enhance business performance.
Collaborate with Product Managers, Commercial & Procurement teams to enhance service delivery.
Assist in innovation projects and support business growth initiatives.
What We're Looking For
Experience & Knowledge
Minimum 3 years of experience as a Technical Manager.
Auditing experience, ideally with GlobalGap or GFSI certification.
Previous work with major retailers and understanding of their standards.
Fresh produce experience preferred, ideally fruit
Understanding of pesticides, MRLs, labelling, and weights & measures regulations.
Qualifications
Minimum Level 3 HACCP & Food Hygiene certification.
Degree or HND/HNC in food science or a related subject.
Auditor/Lead Auditor qualification (desirable).
