To provide clinical leadership for the review and implementation of effective systems and procedures for the management of patient safety incidents, claims and inquests within the Trust.
The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of a robust patient safety incident response framework across the Trust, in order to support the delivery of high quality, safe and supportive services and the fulfilment of the Trust's integrated governance priorities.
The post holder will be responsible for co-ordinating all patient safety incident activity including the development and/or implementation of policies, risk management strategies, training programmes and audit activity.
To promote learning from patient safety incidents, claims and inquests at a care group and trust wide level.

Education and Qualifications
Essential
* Current professional registration (Nurse, AHP or Social Worker) with a regulatory body.
* Masters degree level educational qualification.
* Postgraduate level qualification/training or equivalent work experience in clinical governance.
Desirable
* Project management qualification
* Teaching and training qualification
* Investigation/root cause analysis/human factors training.
Knowledge and Expertise
Essential
* Extensive working knowledge of governance processes in clinical services and the interface with quality of care and assurance mechanisms.
* In depth knowledge of patient safety/risk management and governance within a Health or Social care organisation.
* Working knowledge of NHS regulatory programmes of work and the relationship with/risk management strategy and policy.
* Knowledge of the wider NHS governance programmes of work and national agenda.
* Understanding of the governance and corporate agenda/management in an NHS organisation, or in social care/local authority organisation.
* Knowledge of incident investigation methodologies and frameworks.
* Knowledge of Datix system or similar incident and risk management system.
* Ability to develop, maintain and monitor information systems to support improvement initiatives.
* Ability to use established networks and create new ones to share good practice and facilitate engagement.
* Ability to provide senior leadership and work with senior leaders.
Experience
Essential
* Experience of coordinating and undertaking serious incident investigations.
* Extensive experience in a senior management role within a governance compliance or assurance environment in a health or social care organisation.
* Experience of multi professional and agency working to deliver improvement programmes/agendas across services.
* Experience of delivering and coordinating projects in complex and challenging environments.
* Experience in teaching small and large groups and delivery of presentations with confidence to a range of audiences.
* Proven track record of delivering change.
