Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Ophthalmology outpatients service at Denmark Hill, King's College Hospital. We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual who enjoys working with people and has an interest in working in an eye care setting.
This role requires excellent people and communication skills, and strict attention to detail in order to provide imaging of the highest quality.
Previous experience of working with patients in an eye care setting would be beneficial.
Shift pattern (non-negotiable due to service requirements): 8am - 6pm, including one Saturday and one Sunday shift per roster month.
Main duties of the job
* Demonstrating caring, compassionate, professional behaviour fostering trust and confidence in the service for people in your care.
* Maintain effective communication with patients, relatives, and members of the Multidisciplinary network of professionals regarding all aspects of care demonstrating a range of appropriate communication skills.
* To undertake ophthalmic technician duties including (but not limited to):
o Visual acuity assessment
o Visual field assessment
o Measurement of spectacles using the automated focimeter
o Measurement of Intraocular pressure using the Reichert Ocular Response Analyser and iCARE
o Participate in the virtual technician led clinic.
o Use electronic patient record management system.
o Assist in intravitreal injections and cross linking services.
o Undertake administrative tasks associated with the role, following departmental guidelines and procedures.
o Contribute to the efficient running of all clinics, opening and closing of clinic setting.
o Complete successful care certificate within 3 months of start date.
o Ensure safe use and maintenance of all equipment.
o Commit to further training as required.
o Demonstrate ophthalmic technician duties to others and assist in training new staff when necessary.
o Participate in team huddles and meetings.
o Ensure compliance with policies and procedures of the Trust.

Qualifications
* Degree level qualification or equivalent ophthalmology qualification
* Enhanced ophthalmic imaging techniques (OVS) Qualification
* Care Certificate
* Experience in undertaking Advanced ophthalmic diagnostic investigations
Experience
* Working in an Ophthalmic setting supporting patients and the multi-disciplinary team with a range of Ophthalmic technical skills
* Good IT skills and experience in using software packages
