Purpose of role
Apprentice Test Engineer in a software integration test facility for Trains.
The role will involve learning how to test train software and to build, maintain and repair the associated test equipment.
This will involve working closely with other engineers, suppliers and managers covering a broad range of support activity.
What are my key responsibilities?
* Maintaining and improving electronic and electrical test equipment and associated systems
* Diagnosing, wiring and testing electrical equipment
* Diagnosing, repairing and testing electronic circuits
* Using computer software packages to assist with test engineering activities
* Producing work project plans
* Working with electrical or electronic drawings
* Producing test plans
* Conducting software testing
* Complying with statutory requirements
* Complying with organisational safety requirements
Specific Skill Experiences
Specific skills that will be developed will include, but not be limited to, the following experiences:-
* Time spent working in the Train Zero VCS & TZ Test Lab environments.
* Understanding of the Train software (TCMS) architecture
* Understanding of the power and communications connectivity of TCMS devices
* Software installation to all devices
* Problem Analysis
o Investigation of failed devices (various)
o Recovery of failed device (various)
* Train Zero Lab Testing
o Test Specification creation
o Performing the tests
Candidate Requirements
Essential
* 3 A Levels or equivalent at Grades A-C
* 5 (or more) GCSEs at grade 5-9 (A*-C), including Maths, English and Science
We will also be looking for candidates to be skilled in MS Office and database, along with having demonstrable organsisational and time management skills. Excellent spoken and written English skills are essential, as well as an understanding of the absolute requirement to observe health and safety measures.
Ideally, you will also be logical and an innovative thinker, who is proactive and an enthusiastic self-starter.
