The Product Manager is responsible for researching, understanding, and documenting the needs of product users/stakeholders to support the specification, design, development, and release of product features. Product Managers work in close collaboration with Product Designers, Business Analysts, Software Engineers, and other Product Managers to produce well-written specifications and designs that support product development, consistent with overall product strategy. This person must be comfortable serving as a product ambassador, both internally and with external partners and clients.
As part of the Workflow Solutions Department, this role focuses on developing platform solutions to manage special issues and curated content to support the business initiative driving submission growth.
This role is a great opportunity for peer review and editorial operations experts with project management experience who are keen to transition to a product development role or for experienced product managers who want to focus on business and product strategy in the publishing space.
Collaboration with multiple stakeholders across the business to execute problem vetting and validation exercises is essential for initiating any requirements documentation and prioritisation process. This work will be instrumental in strategic product decisions and solution design to ensure quality delivery.
How you will make an impact:
* Proactively develop a deep understanding of the problems users are trying to solve, problems affecting the business value streams and business KPIs.
* Work with multiple stakeholders, business analysts and UX/Designers to plan and execute product, user and market research and analysis activities.
* Document and present findings from project research activities to provide valuable insights that facilitate strategic product decisions.
* Look for product and value propositions that support business objectives and use a data-driven approach to building a business case for presentation.
* Document business requirements to facilitate solution design.
* Lead and coordinate cross-functional project teams to produce outputs that document the early lifecycle stages of product development.
We are looking for people who have:
* A strong desire to innovate tools to support scientific peer review.
* Experience in science, research, or publishing with a confident and broad understanding of the publishing process.
* A good understanding of the online publishing platform and peer review tools marketplace.
* Ability to effectively communicate and present complex topics to a wide-ranging audience.
* A basic understanding of Agile development methodology.
* The ability to communicate effectively and work within a team environment is critical.
* An understanding of product design is ideal.
* Experience in applying UX research methods, web analytics, A/B testing, user testing, competitor analysis and metric definition.
* Experience working in fast-moving companies in high-growth mode as well as more complex environments involving multiple divisions and more stakeholders is ideal.
* An understanding of highly scalable, reliable, distributed systems is advantageous.
* Experience of working with teams distributed across various locations.
