Job Introduction
As a leading global retailer of precious metals to private individuals and businesses, your role will be to support the wider business in on-boarding new clients and continuous monitoring of existing customers to ensure full compliance with Money Laundering Regulations 2017 (MLR 2017) and our own risk policies as a FCA registered company. The Compliance Officer will proactively be involved in the onboarding of customers, completing on-going due diligence and mitigating the company’s risks relating to financial crime. You will also be involved with helping shape the future profile of the compliance function, in what is a fast-evolving compliance landscape.
Please note: this is a full time, permanent, office based role from our Birmingham head office. This role does not qualify for visa sponsorship, all applicants must have the right to work in the UK.
Main Responsibilities
* Conduct thorough Know Your Customer (KYC) and Customer Due Diligence (CDD) checks on new and existing customers, including individual and corporate clients, ensuring adherence to internal policies and regulatory requirements
* Review KYC documents and ensure all onboarding documents are accurately recorded on file, stored and updated in line with GDPR and data protection policies
* Perform Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) and source of funds/wealth checks on individuals and corporate entities
* Perform EDD on high-risk customers and escalate cases to Senior Compliance Officer/Head of Compliance when necessary for approval
* Identify and investigate any red flags or suspicious behaviour and escalate potential cases of fraud, money laundering or terrorist financing for further investigation
* Identify and investigate possible fraudulent claims, collate all relevant information and escalate to the Senior Compliance Officer or Head of Compliance/MLRO
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the MLR 2017, FCA guidance, and any other relevant industry knowledge
* Be available to support colleagues with day-to-day compliance-related queries, issues and concerns
* Communicate clearly with customers over the telephone and/or email during the customer lifecycle to request further documentation and clarify any issues
* Provide excellent customer service while ensuring compliance requirements are met
* Identify and manage possible safeguarding issues for customer e.g. vulnerability concerns
Key Skills & Competencies:
* Attention to Detail: Ability to scrutinise documents and customer details meticulously and record accurate notes on customer accounts
* Compliance Mindset: Strong knowledge and understanding of UK AML laws, MLR 2017, and FCA requirements
* Analytical Skills: Capability to assess risk factors and apply appropriate judgement
* Communication: Clear and professional communication skills, particularly in dealing with customers regarding compliance requirements
* Team Player: Ability to work effectively with other departments, including compliance and customer service
The Ideal Candidate
* Minimum 3 years’ experience in a KYC/AML or Fraud Investigation-related role, preferably within the financial services or precious metals industry
* Good understanding of FCA regulations and MLR 2017
* Experience with compliance software and KYC/AML tools
* Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
* Works well independently and as part of a team
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Knowledge of GDPR and data protection regulations
* Customer service experience is desirable
* Certification in AML or Fraud (such as ICA or ACAMS) is desirable but not compulsory
The Package
* Base salary between £30,000 and £33,500 depending on experience.
* Bonus of up to 30% of base, paid twice yearly, dependent on Company and personal performance.
