Key Responsibilities and activities Managing the smooth and effective delivery of projects across early and faster diagnosis, treatment variation and personalised care. Managing project delivery, including the development of all project documentation and reporting. Working with and through Cancer Alliance to effect service transformations to enhance SWAG Cancer Alliance patient experience and outcomes. Working closely with partner programmes and organisations, to ensure their priorities and deliverables are aligned to the Cancer Alliances objectives. Engaging extensively with stakeholders to ensure they are part of the design and delivery of cancer transformation projects. Work with the senior management team, NHS England Regional Assurance Team and the National Cancer Programme Team to ensure the objectives of the Long-Term Plan for Cancer are achieved through strong reporting activities. Be responsible for a high standard of work supporting the delivery of projects on time, to quality standards and in a cost-effective manner. Using insight and evidence for improvement by placing data at the heart of everything we do so that our implementation is rooted in best evidence. Provide leadership for transformational change by modelling a collaborative and influencing style of working, negotiating with others to achieve the best outcomes. Embedding this approach across the Cancer Alliance. Communication skills and activities Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, to enable the post holder to communicate to a wide range of audiences both internal and external (essential). Support the development of internal and external communications where required by regular contact with the teams, stakeholders and Communications team. Responsible for preparation of project plans, progress reports, complex papers, as directed by the Programme Manager. Communicate information, risks, issues and dependencies, including briefings and reports to teams, sponsors and a range of internal and external staff. The post holder is in regular contact by telephone, letter, and email, or at meetings with organisations. Communication may be verbal, electronic, written or by attending and contributing to meetings and/or giving presentations. Demonstrate effective stakeholder management including pro-actively managing stakeholders, respond to and resolve conflict when this arises through facilitation or other appropriate mechanisms. People Management Provide line management for the project team as required/delegated. Provide specialist training, advice and support on own role/responsibilities to support training and induction of new staff. Motivate, manage and mentor staff within the team. Responsible for team supervision. Participate in the recruitment process. Financial Management Ensure compliance with all appropriate legal and statutory requirements including standing financial instructions. Supporting budgeting, forecasting and tracking spend of activities. Support the development of business cases for resourcing and activities expenditure. Continually strive for delivering business / activities / function outcomes, value for money and greater efficiency. Contribute to the financial delivery of the service ensuring it is cost effective and delivered on time. Planning and Service Development Maintain clear strategic direction for the Cancer Alliance that is consistent with the overall objectives of Cancer Alliances. Support funding bids templates and processes, etc as necessary for the development of ICB cancer plans. Attend meetings as appropriate for business and planning purposes. Contribute to the development and achievement of the cancer alliance objectives including support of systems integral to the cancer alliance. Propose changes to own area, informing policy and making recommendations for the delivery of other activities. Contribute on development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of new information systems. Contribute to the development of performance and governance strategies and the development and implementation of improvement programmes. Information Management Manipulate information using MS access, MS Excel etc and present data (verbal and written) using these software packages and others MS Word, MS PowerPoint etc. To keep accurate departmental records, both manual and computerised, maintain their confidentiality, participate in maintaining databases and retrieval and preparation of statistical data and reports, as required. Ensure robust information systems are in place to support performance monitoring of plans within the cancer alliance including the preparation of reports for the senior management team. Collate as required, a range of information and lead appropriate analysis to develop robust business cases and contribute to project products. Analyse, interpret and present data to highlight issues, risks and support decision making. Key Working Relationships Operate effectively in a flexible and demanding environment and proactively engage with key stakeholders. Work effectively with a variety of external consultancies working on other projects and programs within other NHS directorates as required. Nurture key relationships and maintain networks internally and externally. May deputise for the Programme Manager as required. To act as a champion for patients and their interests and involve the public and patients in the policy development and decision-making of SWAG CA.
