Do you enjoy working with people of all ages? Do you have a love for reading and are passionate about sharing it? Would you like to work in the community? If so, being a Library and Archive Assistant in Sheffield Libraries might be the perfect choice for you.
You will need strong IT skills and excellent communication abilities. Our busy, fast-paced service will involve delivering a wide range of events and activities, such as singing in Baby RhymeTimes, facilitating reading groups with older children and adults, supporting people to use our computers, and undertaking various library administration tasks.
Roles are based in Clusters and you will work across all Libraries in Sheffield. We have roles available for:

* Temporary until 30 September 2025: 34 hours mainly at Stocksbridge Library in Cluster 1, supporting Chapeltown, Hillsborough, and Parson Cross libraries.
Please specify which role(s) you are interested in when applying.
All roles include working Saturdays regularly. The 34-hour roles work every Saturday, while part-time roles work every other Saturday. Saturday working attracts an enhanced pay rate.
All our Hub Libraries are closed on Thursdays and Sundays.

We also support staff with unpaid caring responsibilities to work flexibly.
Under the Disability Confident Scheme, disabled applicants who meet the essential criteria will be guaranteed an interview.
If appointed, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your current pay exceeds the grade's minimum, we will consider starting you at a higher point within the grade.
Full-time employees work 37 hours per week for 52 weeks and are entitled to generous holiday allowances. We are open to discussing flexible working options, including reduced hours, part-time work, or job sharing, to benefit both staff and the Council.
